Henne moving up on Dolphins' wish list?
> Posted by hfialkov at 11:58:41 AM

Although my partner and seemingly every NFL exec at the Combine has grown in love with Delaware quaterback Joe Flacco, it seems that the Dolphins are focusing their ardor on Michigan quarterback Chad Henne as their potential second-round pick.

My sources say that the Dolphins haven't made any contact with Flacco since checking him out at the Senior Bowl and Combine, while a radio interview by Henne with ESPN-760 host Evan Cohen indicates he could be the pick at No. 32 - if he's still there.

"They wanted to know my character, what I am as a person, as a player,'' Henne told Cohen. "[We went] through what I know, how I go about myself during the game and off the field. So, I've had good contact with them.''

Last week Dolphins quarterbacks coach David Lee and national scout Ron Labadie dined with Henne before attending his Pro Day the next day. Henne said they have another scheduled dinner with him next Tuesday in Ann Arbor, and possible a private workout on Wednesday.

The 6-1, 226-pound Henne is not as mobile or as large as the 6-6 Flacco and is more of a pocket passer, so he will need more developing. Because the Dolphins offensive line is a work in progess, expect John Beck and Josh McCown to battle it out this year while developing a young quarterback such as Henne.

Stay tuned.

Henne?
Didnt he get Benched his senior year? I could be wrong, he might have been injured, either way i was never impressed with him.

Injured
I think he was injured and then tried to come back too soon.  I don't think he was benched.

by KDesai on Mar 20, 2008 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yup, he was injured
To h*ll with it all, I like who Bill, Jeff, and Tony like. I don't care if they draft a waterboy with #1 pick (if they keep it). I'd bet he has some mad skills.
"It all starts with the Dolphins," an executive with another team said Sunday, "and not a single person here has any idea what they're going to do."

Go qb later
I believe with the qb postion being kinda deep with players all average,I say we go qb later on with the chargers 2nd  that we got. With the 1st pick where more likely goen to go defense so i say we should go ol with the number 32 pick that we got .We might just get another 2nd rounder for jason taylor also so theres no reason to rush with qb,We also got brian broham that wont be a bad pick..........................

Henne is a
possibility just like Brohm or Flacco or even Woodson (if the dolphins wait past rd 2 for a QB).

The book on Henne is he's got a good arm, decent (not great) size, and played in a good (non-gimmicky, non spread-style offense) system.

The catch with him is he's not very mobile and he has some problems with accuracy. If you remember Marino being great at improvising in the pocket, Henne is kind of the opposite - he really struggles with that. His career completion % at Michigan was under 60%.

I like Brohm or Flacco more than Henne.

6'1"?
If he is that short, no thanks!!  I want a bigger QB if we draft one.

I've Seen Him Listed At 6-2 or 6-3...
...in most places. He's plenty tall. Plus he throws with an overhand motion too. For contrast, take a look at Flacco and where he releases the ball at. He is 6-6 and the ball comes out at shoulder level.

Hey Drew Brees is 6-1 in his disco shoes and it hasn't hurt him. :)

Brian Brohm
Why isn't he that high on draft boards this year?  I remember last year he could have been a #1 pick.  His number a really good, and they are actually better than Matt Ryan's:

Stat Overview Passing
YEAR CMP  ATT YDS CMP% YPA  LNG TD  INT SACK RAT
2004  66  98  819 67.3 8.36 74   6   2  11 153.67
2005  207 301 2883 68.8 9.58 76  19  5  17 166.73
2006  199 313 3049 63.6 9.74 75  16  5  16 159.08
2007  308 473 4024 65.1 8.51 81  30  12 24 152.43

As compared to Ryan's:

Stat Overview Passing
YEAR  CMP ATT  YDS  CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2004  35  71   350  49.3 4.93 32  2  3   5  91.55
2005  121 195  1514 62.1 7.76 61  8  5   5 135.68
2006  263 427  2942 61.6 6.89 79 15 10 19  126.38
2007  388 654  4507 59.3 6.89 71 31 19 21  127.04

Part of it is due to...
...Brohm's team underperforming this year and Ryan's team exceeding all expectations.

Mike Lombardie on NFL network the other night was asked a similar question about Brohm. He went on to say that Brohm was a good QB, but benefited greatly from the system that Bobby Petrino put in place at Louisville.

He looks like a pretty good QB to me, I just like Ryan a lot more.

Midgets
Why don't we just start scouting the high schools for mobile midgets who might want to play QB.
He can't even see over the center.
He was SO HAPPY when stadium seating came to the theatres....get real. I can think of 5 QB's better than him.

I was reading
a article in the Sun-Sent and read:

Last week, Dolphins quarterbacks coach David Lee and national scout Ron Labadie dined with Henne the night before the Wolverines' Pro Day.

Henne said he was mostly questioned about his leadership tactics.

Really, his leadership tactics huh?

"It all starts with the Dolphins," an executive with another team said Sunday, "and not a single person here has any idea what they're going to do."

For what it is worth Neo...
apparently Henne was not a team captain even during his last year.

It is a bit odd for your senior QB to not be a team captain. Can you imagine someone like Peyton Manning not being a team captain in college?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that Henne hasn't exactly shined in big games. As I recall, he is part of a graduating class that's 0-4 against ohio state. Not a trivial detail in Ann Arbor.

All true
but I could see him developing into a decent back-up.. I wouldn't take him before the 4th round though.. so if he is gone earlier than that-- forget it.

Jayfiss...
the only catch is I'm seeing increasing talk (call it speculation as everything is at this time of year) of us drafting him not in the 4th, not the 3rd, but the 2nd round.

by Natalya on Mar 21, 2008 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah...
in that case i say stay away.

Henne in the third round
If we get another third round pick somehow, I'd be just fine with taking Henne with it.

08 QB Class (My opnion)
Out of the 2008 QB class, in my opinion, te top five QB rankings are:
  1. Brian Brohm
  2. Joe Flacco
  3. Matt Ryan
  4. Andre Woodson
  5. Chad Henne
I was very impressed with Flacco and Brohm accuracy and great size in the pocket. The reason why i dont like ryan and woodson soo much is due to their releases...Ryan ALWAYS slings the ball and doesent have a good deep ball...while Woodson has a slow release with a great touch on the ball...
Brohm and Flacco to me seems like they hav great potential in the NFL...look at youtube vids to see for yourself

you are a sad biased case, matty...
u disgust me.  u obviously dont want BP to pick Matty Ice because u know he would pose the biggest threat to ur beloved mormon cult follower.  but u favor henne or some "2nd" tier guy because it gives ryan leaf/tim couch a better chance at not looking as bad as he is.

dude, sad case.  BP, bring us the next peyton manning and slowly push ryan leaf down the depth chart and out of the league...

by mred on Mar 24, 2008 3:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hah
First of all Matty I didn't post in this thread. Second, I can't wait till Ryan is drafted 18th, does nothing, and you crawl back under the rock you came from.

by Offer Doll on Mar 24, 2008 6:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

#8
8th not 18th. The Ravens would have to take the guy if he's at 8 I would imagine.

by Offer Doll on Mar 24, 2008 7:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ummmm...
first off i think its safe to say that you disgust more people than any on the site. not only for bashing matty for all the work he does to bring us information but for this..

comparing beck to leaf/couch is just ignorant. first off beck is a 2nd round pick!! he is not a top 5 pick like the others.

if you dont like what matty post and cant contribute to the fact in a way that is for the lack of a better word "respectable" then get your ass to another site and dont post here. i have no problem with say "matty ice is the next marino and will win 17 superbowls" or whatever you think the kid is gonna do. just dont come out like a damn jackass cause really no one wants to read that shit and im pretty sure im not alone.

There will be changes here, there's no doubt about that ~BP~

Agree
Some people are just idiots who should have no right to contribute to this site!!  They lack a developed opinion and a sense of respectibility.  I almost think we should just ignore their posts!

seriously....
...pay attention to who posted this.  Was it me (Matty I) or another Dolphin fan named "Matt."

Hmmmm....

Oh, and for the record, no I'm not Mormon, so lets not make this a religious thing.  I already had to ban somebody for making it a race issue as to why I dislike Cleo Lemon.  And I still get e-mails from that reader calling me a racist (and other things that aren't suited for this site).
