The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #2 - St. Louis Rams

With the first pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Chris Long, DE, Virginia.

Long received 49% of the votes, with Jake Long in second place at 34%.  A distant third was Matt Ryan, with 7%.

So up next is the #2 pick, belonging to the St. Louis Rams.  Below are their draft needs, according to NFL Draft Countdown:

1. Defensive End: Leonard Little will turn 34-years-old during the 2008 season and he is starting to wear down while James Hall was recently cut, leaving Victor Adeyanju as a starter on the other side.
2. Wide Receiver: Isaac Bruce, who was the last Ram around from the old Los Angeles days, was let go which means the depth is now extremely sketchy behind their starters Torry Holt & Drew Bennett.
3. Offensive Line: Two years in a row now Orlando Pace has gone down with season-ending injuries, Alex Barron is best suited for the right side and there are still a ton of question marks on the interior.

Matty...
with Chris Long off the board, then I think Jake Long becomes the logical pick here for the Rams. I don't foresee any kind of trade-down with the Rams as they are not in the McFadden or Ryan sweepstakes.

Anyway, I voted for Jake Long - Rams, #2 overall...

Rams
I took Jake Long here. I think that makes the most sense. I wouldn't be surprised if a DT got the call either. I've been hearing that the Rams love Gholston. If that's true they may look to trade down.

the Long and winding road
The Rams win and we don't win quite so much. But this won't happen coz J Long won't slip to no.2.

Rams are in the Same
position as the Dolphins.  Better prospects at Defensive Line now, than with Offensive Line in the later rounds.  What kind of defensive lineman can the Rams get in round two or three?  But good offensive linemen are all over those rounds.

That's why the Dolphins pick Chris Long (besides that Jason won't be here), becuase they can get good offensive line men later.

Boy!  I wish I worked in footbal.  This is kinda fun.

Curious

What O-lineman do you think will be in those rounds?

I picked Glenn
I think that regardless of his injury that he is going to be a powerful middle force to be reckoned with in the NFL.  The Rams have a pressing need in the interior D-line which is pretty apparent when you look at some of the easy play offenses could get up the middle on them in 07.  This the Direction I think they will go.  Alternate pick could be Jake Long.

I almost said Gholston, but
I think Linehan loves offensive lineman a lot, and he will definately need to improve the line, which he began with the signing of Jacob Bell.

I almost said Gholston because I think they need a playmaker on defense, but I settled with Long.
