The Atlanta Falcons have reached an agreement in principle with the Oakland Raiders to trade cornerback DeAngelo Hall for the Raiders' second-round pick in the 2008 draft, pending the Raiders finalizing a contract with Hall, according to a source close to the Falcons.

Hall is close to agreeing to a contract with the Raiders that will pay him just below what Asante Samuel signed with the Eagles, according to the source. Samuel signed a six-year deal worth a reported $57 million, with $20 million guaranteed.

Hall is a former first-rounder taken with the eighth pick in the 2004 draft.

Drats
He's a good back, but I'm not sure he's worth that much money. Raiders are going to have the best defensive back corps in the league now.

raiders..
they might have the best DBs.. but give them like 2 years and they will be in CAP HELL.. they have overpaid everyone so far and for that matter they dont even know whos gonna be there coach this year

I trust....
that Parcells know much more about football and building a franchise than i will ever know, but when the raiders get deangelo hall and we get Nathan Jones I sometimes get worried. We have gotten no real help in the secondary off-season, our only hope is that Yeremiah Bell turns out to be the stud that he was predicted to be last year

not getting hall
i understand us wanting hall, samuel, trufant, of some other big name FA to help improve our secondary, but i'll use the term of the year for us in (we arent 1 or 2 players away) from contending right now. that said we cant really afford to give up tons of money to a couple players when we need pretty much a whole new team.
if jimmy and wanny would of used the draft to build a team then maybe we would be in a position to take a big name, but of course we are coming of "the season" and cant afford to do that. even if atlanta wanted to swap our pick for theirs+hall it, hes going to want samuel money and i dont know if we need that right now.
i love the current moves building up the special teams (i posted and article "foundation")that points out where we are going right now. and thats how this team "HAS" to be done. we really arent re-building we are BUILDING. we are pretty much an expansion team right now and have to start small.

I knew that
Hall would be wanting Asante Samuel money. And while Samuel has produced some good work in the past few years, Hall remains a young, very talented, very underachieving DB.

Do you give a player like that $55M and put a big dent in your salary cap? Personally, I don't think it is worth it.

The giants beat the leagues best pass offense ever (that would be NE last year) with McQuarters & Madison at corner - two guys who are not considered top 10 corners by anybody. Which shows again, that the best pass defense is a great pass rush...
