REPORT: Keyshawn Johnson coming to Miami??
CBS4 is reporting that Bill Parcells has reached out to Keyshawn Johnson about potentially joining the Miami Dolphins:
Alright. What isn't discussed here is if Keyshawn would be coming to the Dolphins as a player or as an assistant on Tony Sparano's staff. My guess would be as a player, but I won't make any assumptions.
If it is as a player, then this is certainly a HUGE deal. Johnson hasn't played since 2006, when he caught 70 passes for 815 yards and 4 touchdowns. Recently, it was reported by Chris Mortensen that the Panthers reached out to Keyshawn in the middle of 2007 after losing Maurice Stovall. Johnson responded to that report that by saying he enjoys his ESPN job but "is listening" to offers to come out of retirement.
Now, he'll be 36 in July, but is certainly a guy who I wouldn't mind seeing get a shot with this group in Miami come training camp. And with the respect Keyshawn has for Parcells, I wouldn't be shocked if this rumor did come to fruition.
Hat tip to John for e-mailing this story to me.

omg omg omg
ugh!
ouch!!
I might go with D huard on that topic...
but my point, as i'm sure you understand, is bringing in guys who have 1 or 2 years left in the tank is not going to get the dolphins out of the morass that they are currently stuck in. I'm sure if you bring in enough vets, as saban did, you can create the illusion of progress and get the team to a so-so six to nine wins type of team, but for how long can they sustain that...
recent history tells us not very long. This organization needs youth and it needs a lot of it.
and they need to play that youth once they get it. drafting guys to 'learn' how to play, watching from the sideline, washed up vets go 1-15 won't do it.

WOW
I remember another receiver about his age the team reached out to - Chris Carter - and he ended up with a lacerated organ of some sort (Kidney?). Not good.
I hear from the media, that Keyshawn looks marvelous -- in great shape, to make it into football camp. Another veteran though, and I wonder how much he'll cost.
It's just barely February and it's getting interesting by the day........
Eh
I totally agree...

I'll pass
This is a low-risk move...
The catch is, Keyshawn would have maybe, if even, what, a year? two max? the dolphins won't be contending in that time frame so they best have some talent developing to take over whatever spot they would hypothetically give keyshawn.
except
player with future potential that he certainly doesnt bring to the table.

No excuses, just something to keep in mind though.
