Alabama vs Florida

I can't believe I haven't read many posts about this game yet. Am I the only one that hopes the Gators (and I'm a Canes fan mind you) rolls, and I mean absolutely ROLLS Alabama.

Its more than a Florida team having a chance to go to the National title game. Its about kicking Nick Saban in the, I would say nuts, but apparently he doesn have any. Heres a chance to screw him like he screw us.

I'm not taking the Alabama job. I don't know what else to say. I'm not going to be the head coach at Alabama. F*ck you Saban.

Well guess what? Your not going to play for the National title. I don't know what else to say it except, your gonna get your @ss handed to you.

Its time the state of Florida screws you like you screwed it. Payback is a b*tch.

I think I may be an outlier but...

I still respect the shit out of Nick Saban even though I am a die hard Phins fan. We cannot really judge him on how he did here because he really did not have enough time. The time he did have, I don’t even think he did a bad job.Yes, there is a side of me that is a little bit angry but I think he has really built something great there in Alabama and actually am a little happy for him. The media here really drove him nuts and he did what was best for his family. I am looking forward to see some Gator fans cry tonight.

Let this season BE GINN!

I respect your opinion

but I think he sucked. ALl he did was draft SEC guys. He got us Ronnie but that was a no brainer. Jason Allen, uh well… Matt Roth…ummm. Every year it was the same thing. We would lose a bunch of games, start winning at the end of the season to drop us down the draft board and give us false hope for next season.

If your leaving, man up and say that your leaving. Or at least “yeah there are talks”. Don’t look everyone in the face, ownership, players, fans and lie. Then repeat the lie.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Dec 6, 2008 3:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno

Put yourself in his shoes. You can’t face your team when you are in the middle of the playoff hunt and tell them you will be leaving. That really would have killed all hopes of the playoff. Yes, we did not make it but I think it would have been media hell if he woulda said he was considering it.

Also imagine that you are working for a company and they ask you if you are interviewing at other places. It just isn’t right to say that you are. I dunno.

And I personally think Ronnie Brown wasn’t an easy choice with Cadillac there. Also, Math Roth has been playing lights out in his transition and Jason Allen is coming into his own.

Let this season BE GINN!

You can look the man

who is paying you millions in the eye and tell him the truth though.

And when were we ever in the playoff hunt at the middle of the season with Saban?

Everyone knows Cadillac was too samll to be a every down back in the NFL. His career in the NFL has proven that.

I think Roth is better back-up than starter.

Allen is gettin benched for Thomas. If thats coming into his on, he’d best start his ‘coming out’ party pretty soon. Pick up?

While I share your disgust and distrust of Saban...

…Matt Roth went to Iowa (not an SEC school). Jason Allen, Ronnie Brown, Travis Daniels, and Channing Crowder, however – well, that’s quite a mixed bag of nuts, isn’t it? While Daniels started fast and faded faster, he served an immediate need and contributed. As far as I’m concerned, the most egregious sin he committed (aside from the whole lying, two-faced, snake-oil salesman thing, of course) was spending a first-round pick on Jason Allen. That was Kumerow-esque in it’s ineptitude. Wannstedtian in it’s Eddie Moore-ishness, if you will.

I appreciate your venom, Neo, and I felt your pain, but no more. My energy is better spent enjoying the current team’s success rather than dwelling on the “dark era” of ’96 – ’07.

Go Dolphins.

If I had a tagline, this would be it.

Didn't Roth get drafted out of Iowa?

anyway, I couldn’t agree more. Make a decision, man up about it and be honest. If you’re a player how do you respect a coach who preaches about responsibility and lies like O’Saban bin Lying?

I’ll root for a team that loses more than it wins, I won’t root for a team that has a coach that has no honor.

Seriously?

yes I was aware that Roth

was drafted out of Iowa. the “All he did was draft SEC players” was just a general comment. I only mentioned those players because they are the only ones that seem to be contributing to this team in anyway,

I want Bama

All cane fans say that hate the gators but you dont share the hatred of a rivalry like FSU does. Although the past few games havent been very competitive against FSU there is such a strong hatred here for the Gaytors.

So I want bama but wouldnt mind if someone punches saban in the head like one V tech player did to frank beamer today lol.

Are holding the Nat’l Championship trophy…again!

One day, FSU might see an ACC championship game. One day. Maybe.

How do you say they usually get blown out?

2008 – 41-35 Loss to Michigan – Capital One Bowl
2007 – 41-14 Win over THE Ohio State University (Nat’l Champions)
2006 – 31-24 Win over Iowa – Outback Bowl
2004 – 27-10 Loss to Miami – Peach Bowl
2004 – 37-17 Loss to Iowa – Outback Bowl
2003 – 38-30 Loss to Michigan – Outback Bowl
2002 – 56-23 Win over Maryland – Orange Bowl
2001 – 37-20 Loss to Miami – Sugar Bowl
2000 – 37-34 Loss to Michigan State – Citrus Bowl

Just a couple of lopsided games in there, one being the National Championship over OSU. Not bad. Unless you meant OU, in which case I may need to do some research…

I said BCS games

not regular bowls.

BTW:

2007 – 41-14 Win over THE Ohio State University (Nat’l Champions) = Wrong

LSU was National Champs that year.

Also in College football who is teams like:

Ohio State – They are overrated thats why they always get blown out in thier BCS games. Except the Miami one when the refs kept them in (McGahee got hurt) not to mention the Refs GAVE THEM THAT GAME. It was over. everyone was coming on the field and THEN he wants to throw a flag please.

Iowa – Another weal Big Ten team.

Maryland – Nuff said.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Dec 7, 2008 10:16 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No

LSU was National Champions for this year, which was the 2008 National Championship game, played after the 2007 season.

So, Florida was the 2007 National Championship game winner, after the ’06 season.

Just like, this season’s National Championship game will be the 2009 game.

Ohio State made it to back to back National Championships, so, while I agree that they are overrated, they must at least be pretty decent to get there twice.

And, UF performance in BCS Bowls

Since BCS started in 1998-99 Season

1998-99: Orange Bowl, UF 31 – Syracuse 10

2000-01: Sugar, Miami 37 – UF 20

2001-02: Orange, UF 56 – Maryland 23

2006-07: National Championship Game, UF 41, Ohio State 14

So, in 4 BCS games, UF has lost once, 37-20 to The U. I will consider a 17 point loss a blow out. But, otherwise, they have wins of 21, 35, and 27.

So, how do they always get blown out? I still don’t understand your comment.

Now I am following you.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I did say

Unless you meant OU, in which case I may need to do some research…

Because I thought I might have. Now, I will have to go look to see how OU has done in BCS games.

"The dolphin is one of the fastest and smartest creatures of the sea. Dolphins can attack and kill a shark or whale. Sailors say bad luck will come to anyone who harms one of them." - Joe Robbie, Oct 8, 1965 upon announcing the name of the new AFL Miami football team.

OU BCS History

2000-01 Orange Bowl – OU 13, FSU 2 (National Championship)
2002-03 Rose Bowl – OU 34, WSU14
2003-04 Sugar Bowl – LSU 21, OU 14 (National Championship)
2004-05 Orange Bowl – USC 55, OU 19 (National Championship)
2006-07 Fiesta Bowl – Boise St. 43, OU 42 (OT)
2007-08 Fiesta Bowl – West Virginia 48, OU 28

I’ll agree with them getting blown out most of the time. Their first two trips were good, but since then, the have lost four, all blow outs except for two years ago’s 1 point loss to Boise State in OT.

Bodes well for the Gators!

Ohio State made it to back to back National Championships, they must at least be pretty decent to get there twice.

Yeah, one would think. When Kirk Herbstreit and the ESPN hype machine gets rolling they can get anyone they want in there.

Lets look over OS wins those years to get to the National Title game.

2007:

at No. 23 Purdue W 23-7 6-0 (3-0)
at No. 25 Penn State W 37-17 9-0 (5-0)
No. 21 Wisconsin W 38-17
at No. 21 Michigan W 14-3 11-1 (7-1)

Thats all the ranked teams. No ACC or SEC schools at all. Notice anything? All the ranked teams they played were in thier own sorry overrated conference….“The weak” I mean “The Big 10”.

2006:

at No. 2 Texas W 24-7
No. 24 Penn State W 28-6
at No. 13 Iowa W 38-17
No. 2 Michigan W 42-39

Notice anything again? Three of their wins were against their overrated conference. And please don’t be mislead by that No.2 Texas win. That was the 2nd game of the season and Texas went on to finish 10-3 while playing only 2 other ranked teams that year, none ranked higher than 14th.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Dec 7, 2008 10:53 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

just a little FYI

Lets look how the “Other” temas fromt hat year got to be in the bowl game.

2007:

LSU

No. 9 Virginia Tech W 48-7
No. 12 South Carolina W 28-16
No. 9 Florida W 28-24
at No. 17 Kentucky L 43-37
No. 17 Auburn W 30-24
at No. 17 Alabama W 41-34
No. 14 Tennessee W 21-14

Note a loss to nonranked Arkansas L 50-48

But are you F’n kiddin me?

2006:

Florida Gators

at No. 13 Tennessee W 21-20
Alabama W 28-13
No. 9 LSU W 23-10
at No. 11 Auburn L 27-17
at Georgia W 21-14
at Florida State W 21-14 …not sure if I should’ve thrown that one in there.-)
No. 8 Arkansas W 38-28

So tell me if the hype machine doesn’t work.

Reminder:

I’m a Canes Fans but I cannot stand these other schools getting free passes while these REAL teams in REAL conferences beat each other up.

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Dec 7, 2008 11:06 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That is one downfall of the system

And I think it is a MAJOR downfall. A team gets penalized for playing in a strong conference. Teams that beat each other up are not worse than a team that goes through a weak conference undefeated. If anything, they are better for having dealt with that punishment.

Plus, the system doesn’t work when a loss at the beginning of the season doesn’t hurt you nearly as bad as a loss at the end.

Look at Michigan’s loss to App St. They started off #5, fell out of the rankings and then were all the way back up to 13 and threatening to break into the top 10 again before they went and lost 2 more. But, at the point they were at #13, they already had two losses, yet were looking to get back into the Top 10? How does that work?

They still made it to the Capital One Bowl, where they beat the #9 Gators, but should they have even been there?

There needs to be some way to make a loss at the beginning of the season and a loss at the end equal. Voters forget about early losses. It’s a what have you done for me lately system.

who did they play in the regular season? Nebraska that year played and destroyed ranked teams of 2, 7, 8 and 10. The Hurricanes may have had more future NFL talent, but ‘95 Nebraska had a better NCAA team. You’re right its not an arguement. I’m right. Period. lol

Well maybe I could be wrong. 71 Nebraska probably was THE best of THE best. ’01 Canes were probably in the 4-6 area historically

Here is what the last 2 "overhyped" SEC teams did the past 2 years

2007/08 BCS Championship— Louisiana State University 38, Ohio State 24

2006/07 BCS Championship— Florida 41, Ohio State 14 (final #2 ranking)

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

It's going to be Florida again....

Can’t wait to see the Gators holding up that crystal football again!

sorry bud

they may get a nice look at it, but they won’t be hoisting it. But hey, at least you’re there, and by that, you have a chance. I take it thats your NCAA team? Hated Spurrier, so now they don’t really offend me like they used to. Wanna make a friendly bet on the game? No money, just something funny

Yeah, they are my NCAA football team

Them and UCF. Wish UCF would figure out how to win…

I go for UF and UNC in basketball (being a FL boy, the UF makes sense, and I was born in NC, so I picke UNC as a kid to root for them).

Being a FL Tech alumnus, it doesn’t lend itself to really rooting for them, since the are a D-II school. Though, I do get emailed on all their sports results and news stories.

kinda going back on the bet here, and this is why

its just not cool. I have no ties to the game. They aren’t my teams afterall. I’d just be cheering to cover a bet, and that goes against my grain as a football fan. Find a OU fan to make a bet with, and to me, that would be right. You enjoy your game and I’ll give ya a “good luck”. Understand where I’m coming from?

Of course

No problem.

Kinda wish it was Texas or Texas Tech in the game this year, since everyone around here is a fan of one of those two, but oh well.

GO GATORS!!!!!!
