WE DID IT!!
Hey my fellow Dol-Fans, this is an excerpt from my Blog that i wrote late last night while still on an amaing high from what we all were dreaming about last night....hope you likey!!!
With emotions running extremely high for me, I wanted to do this blog entry completely off the top of my head…research, notes and stat free, so bear with me.
First let me tell you the circumstances under which I was watching the Dolphins-Jets game on Sunday. I’m currently in Minneapolis/St. Paul and went to the Vikings-Giants game, which was a 12pm start time. Then we had tickets to see the Minnesota Wild play at 5pm. How does one attend both of these events while being able to watch the Dolphin game from start to finish?
We first had to leave the Vikings game early, with just under 10 minutes left. Then we had to hire a car service (this was done a week ago) to take us from the Metrodome to the Excel Energy Center, which has an in house sports bar with 40 HDTV’s. Once there we had to get the bartender to turn on the Fins game, which made it on 2 of the 40 TV’s. Then with Minnesota Wild fans coming and going as the hockey game neared its start time, we watched the game.
When Miami scored their first touchdown I yelled so loud that the room actually quieted down because the people were so confused to why some random person just stood up and started cheering. As the game drew closer to the end, a small group started to grow around us, combined with one other Dol-Fan (from Canada), some people from Wisconsin who were simply rooting for Favre to lose, and then just your normal football fans curious to see the ending. When it finally ended, we managed to catch about the last 26 minutes of the hockey game.
After it was over I couldn’t speak for a few moments, as I stood there just repeating to myself in my head “The Dolphins are AFC East Champions”. It’s still so surreal to me. I’ve had Sports Center on in my hotel room for the past couple hours and I just cant get enough. I’m not a big fan of ESPN’s football coverage but at this point I’m taking what I can get.
But seriously, how amazing was that game? How amazing has this season been? For 20 teams the season is over, but for the first time in 7 years, the Dolphins’ season is not. Chad Pennington was amazing yet again and seemed even more poised then he did in Week 1. Andre Goodman had a career-type game, and how about the 48-yard clutch field goal by (rookie?) Dan Carpenter? I’m pretty sure it was a little windy in Jersey on Sunday…but you couldn’t tell by looking at that kick.
I don’t know what has happened to Joey Porter but he has all but disappeared the past few weeks. He is really going to need to step it up against the Ravens next week.
One thing I loved from this game was the ‘trick’ play calling. I knew we had the capability but figured we were saving some good stuff for the Jets game, and boy was I right. Granted the execution was pretty bad, as the Dolphins squandered what would have been great scoring opportunities, but knowing they plays are there gives me hope. We are really going to have to pull some craziness out of our butts if we want to fool the Ravens defense.
There will be more later, but for now I have zero bars left in my battery and need to re-charge. Soak it up Dol-Fans, enjoy every single moment of this. No matter what the future holds for this franchise, I doubt there will ever be a season with the unsuspecting magic of this one. Going from 1-15 to 11-5 is something no team had ever done…until now.
