Devils Advocate
Dear Dolphans,
Take the following as my entry for the Chad Pennington (across enemy lines) Phinsider award. Those of you who have rose colored classes and do not want their buzz to be killed please do not read any further.
Do you REALLY want the Dolphins to win this game??? I want to present you the evidence as to why I don't think winning this game will be a positive for the long term success of this franchise.
Winning this game has the following consequences:
1) We will have won the AFC east which means next year we will be facing: Tennesse, Pittsburgh, San Deigo (probobly) on top of the AFC south/NFC south which is alot better than what we faced this year.
2) Chad Pennington will be the odds on favorite to keep his starting job next year which means another year of not seeing Chad Henne on the field
3) We will be HOSTING a playoff game against either Baltimore or New England who we've already been embrassed by this year at home.
4) We will fall about 6-7 spots in the draft next year.
Basically... we will celebrating all week just to have our hearts stomped on the following week. I dont care what any of you say, we will not beat either of those teams. We just don't have the depth at CB to handle the spread offense and we can't keep up offensively right now w/ Ginn & Bess at wideout. And Baltimore, well... you saw how that played out... we cant move the ball on them.
Everyone here is all over CP's nuts and it makes me sick. He's a Jet and always will be. I still cannot root for him. I'm sorry. Its how I feel. I said this from day one. Its a nice story that he's redeeming himself after being thrown away by the Jets but thats all it is...a redemption story. I wanted Chad Henne to play right away. I didnt care if it meant we were a 6-10 team. I wanted to see falshes of greatness ala Matt Ryan w/ the Falcons or Flacco w/ the Ravens. Look how bright their futures are. Do you really think CP can lead us to a SUPERBOWL??? Thats the bottom line here... obviously you all do...but I just don't see it. Even if he is good enough to lead us there... He's not a true Dolphin.. it wouldn't feel right. Maybe I'm spoiled from the Marino era but it just doesnt seem right.
Imagine if Henne developed over the course of the year like Ryan&Flacco and we had another draft under our belt next year, with a 3rd place schedule and a higher draft pick.... the superbowl is being hosted in Miami next year, and we would have HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE... isnt that alot better than praying that the former JET Chad Penningon will overcome all his shortcomings in talent and take us there????
As the title suggests.. this is just food for argument. I will obviously defer to my inner dolfan and root for them (as a team, not for CP) today, but it still wont feel right to me....

nuts ...
we will be better next year and will rise to meet the challenge of the schedule and grow as a result. All very good/great teams in the making had to raise that level. Another year or 2 or 3 for Henne on the bench will mean CP10 is playing commanding football at the helm. Good for us all round. You have to want us to win this game… the biggest since when? And yes, I know you are playing Devil’s Advocate.
Go Phinssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

Wrong on so many levels!
ahh, I was going to write a long comment explaining why your logic is flawed, but I will save that for the post season… too much of an exciting day for me to be dragged down.
Enjoy the game.

Can't do it
Your position requires the team to try not to win, and fans to root for them to lose. Not this team not this fan. Do you really think Sparano and these players give a rats butt about who they play next year or where the team drafts? Thats fantasy and should stay there, not on the real field of play.

The schedule
The Dolphins have so many gifts fall into their laps this year, like the easy schedule, the injury to Brady, the Jills game in doors etc. Yes next year will be much harder, which is why they should win the game today. Who knows when an opportunity like this will come around again.
Frequently wrong, but never in doubt.

Been around a while,...
…long enough to know we haven’t had a dominating team in a long time. Of course,we still don’t, but we’ve gotten used to rooting for our no-name, gritty guys. Even our last winning teams in the Jay Fiedler years had that no respect, gritty aspect to them. It has become part of our character as fans to root for just exactly what CP10 is accomplishing this year. A Cinderella story is all we’ve had to hope for for so long that we love the guy because he embodies the dream we’ve held dear for the Phins for so long.
He is a Dolphin, not a Jet. I’m surprised that you can’t see it. Watch his “defining play” that Ryazo posted today and tell me he’s not all Phin.
You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four.

What a WHINER!!!
Are you kidding me??? You don’t post anything, then on the morning of a HUGE game for the Dolphins and the fans, you put this garbage up? Make it easy on yourself…..sell your Dolphin stuff and buy Jets stuff. You’re more fitting to their kind of ilk. You have a right to your opinion, this is my right to respond.
GO DOLPHINS!
Merry Christmas to all , and to the Jets GOODNIGHT!
