2008 Lions would beat the '72 Dolphins?
Over on AOL Fanhouse, blogger Michael David Smith posted an article saying that this year's Lions could beat the '72 Fins. This may seem really crazy and out there at first, but he brings up some good points.
The 2008 Lions have the worst defensive line in football, and they routinely get pushed up and down the field. But they would destroy the 1972 Dolphins, whose best offensive lineman was the 247-pound Bob Kuechenberg. The 2008 Lions have an inept offensive line, but it's an inept offensive line that outweighs the 1972 Dolphins' defensive line by 50 pounds a man.
That is a good point. Now bigger does not always mean better, but it does in most cases. I think that their d-line could push around our '72 o-line. He goes on to say Calvin Johnson would tear up our secondary, which I cannot argue with. Being a Georgia Tech fan and watching him tear up every secondary since his high school days(yes, Calvin Johnson went to a rival high school of my high school), I cannot argue with this point. He would easily tear up almost any NFL secondary if he had a good QB. I was not alive to see the '72 undefeated season, but just by reading that, it almost has me sold.

You can't compare across eras because of the difference in the size of the players
A NT like Jason Ferguson would eat alive any center or guard from the early 70s that tried to block him. It’s totally different now.
True You can't compare across eras
Don Shula was the coach and todays Lions Dont have that and I would bet the 72 Fins against them.
weight traing and better collage programs and scoutting. While in collage we were looking at a film that showed mens clothing from the 1800’s and conpairing peoples body sizes from then to now, amazon.
better nutrition, and evolution. hell they say we came from a tad poll. Still the 08 Lions stink the 72 Fins
destroyed everyone……………………………….

The problem with the analysis is right here...
…if he had a good QB
.
The lions wouldn’t be 0-15 if they had a good quarterback or even a decent one.
If I were betting, I would put my money on a well-coached, big effort, error-free, undersized team.
Another reason why Detroit is 0-15 is that they keep making silly mistakes.
Also, I don't recall Georgia Tech winning any championships while CJ was there
it takes more than a superstar WR (and a pretty good RB) to win.
did I say anything about a championship?
no. I simply said he tore up college. Which he did. That is why he was drafted 3rd overall.
If Ifs and buts were candy and nuts.........
hey, it is almost Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all , and to the Jets GOODNIGHT!
so what
and the 2007 dolphns would have beat the 70s steelers.
damn right
we could have beat the hell out of those dudes
smoking rally bowls for the phins since 2002! oh and screw the jets
It's just some guys lame attempt at stirring up a reaction
when all he’s doing is making an obvious point that athletes today are light years ahead of athletes of the last generation. Guys that are 350 run like they’re 250. 265lb Running backs run 4.5 40’s. Back then, if you had an OL averaging 275, they were HUGE. Now, that’s a LB.

The leauge has changed dramtically!!!!
Players are bigger, faster, and the game itself moves much faster. So its an unfair comparison, and also shitty. And quite frankly, the 2008 Lions couldn’t beat the ‘72 Dolphins let alone Nicky’s pee wee team. Right Nicky?
But in any case, what our Phins did in ’72 has no been touched. Not by Patriots, not by anybody. This clown is probably some Jets fan ready to accept failure on Sunday, and taking a cheap shot!
There is only one team in Perfectville, and that team will have the greatest season turnaround come Sunday
Mission 1W baby!!!!
