Buffalo Rumblings Q&A

Hey Phinsiders.

So, yeah.  Brian from Buffalo Rumblings here.  Let's get a few things out of the way, shall we?

- The Bills suck.  They're 1-5 in their last six.
- No, I don't know how we lost to the 49ers on our home turf.
- I fully expect this thread to set an Internet record for number of Toronto jokes.  Go!
- Yes, I still hate the Dolphins, but for the first time in a while, it's due to jealousy.  Excuse me while I vomit.

If you've got questions about the Bills, fire away.  Let the ribbing begin!

They will become the Toronto Bison?

I’ve already decided – if the Bills move, my NFL loyalties will lie elsewhere.

Whats the scoop on Trent Edwards? He gonna play?

We’ll see if he practices Wednesday. Jauron said he was “very sore” yesterday, and that he “might” practice Wednesday. I think he’ll go.

Who's your new team? Giants, right? I'm guessing Giants. Yep, definitely Giants.

God I hope the Bills don’t move. The one set of fans in our division I don’t really hate, I’d hate to see them f—ked over. Good luck with all of that, honestly.

Thanks. Honestly, that’s appreciated.

And no. I can’t be an NFL fan without my share of misery, so I’d probably be a Browns or Vikings fan.

You can do better than the browns, man.

Being a Bills fan has clearly affected your self-esteem, lol.

Anyway, I have a legit question here. I just did a fan post about how easy the run-ins of the Jets, Pats and Fins are. The toughest games each have is their game with the Bills. The Bills may be on a bad run, but they’re still .500 and divisional games are tough to call.

So my question is, which game of those three would you say the Bills have the best chance to win? Who do you match up best against and why? The only game you actually have in Buffalo is the Pats game, Jets are away and Fins in Toronto.

Also, do you think the Bills will pack it in once they’re eliminated? Have they packed it in already? Or will we see them playing hard to the end of the year?

Football isn't a matter of life and death - it's far more important than that.

The team always plays hard under Dick Jauron. They’ll keep playing no matter what, but at this point, they’re clearly not a confident bunch.

This is no knock on Miami, but this week’s game in Toronto is the Bills’ last, best chance to pull out a win. The Bills have sucked at home, losing 3 straight, so Toronto might actually suit them well. The Bills inexplicably weren’t built to win in cold weather, so a dome should help. The Bills and Dolphins always play close. If the Bills can avoid turnovers and, you know, score points this week, I think that it’s about a 50-50 game. We’ll lose in New York, and I can’t fathom beating the Patriots, either, especially in a season finale.

The Browns are an Erie team, and I’m all about territory. The Vikings are the only other team to lose 4 Super Bowls. If I can identify with any other teams in the league, those are the two teams.

I HOPE THEY DON'T....MOVE......I HOPE THEY DO LOSE BY 50!!

I’m living down in Clearwater, fl…….but I’m from Toledo,Ohio. I’ve been to Ralph Wilson 5-6 times, I love it there, except for the ten tons of shit I take. But, fret for me, because I give back 20 tons of shit. Usually, it starts about 8 in the morning with numerous Bills fans name calling & trying to start a fight……however with my advanced people skills I can convince them that at the end of the day its just a game ……….SO, fuck off. That disposition, most of the time, has endeared me to most that I am surrounded by. Sorry about your season……..NOT!! But, do what you can to Keep those Bills right there where they belong!!! The division would not be the same without them!!!

I’m not sure I understand the question. Either you’re commenting on me flipping the proverbial bird at my team, or you’re asking me to put my finger on the biggest reason for the collapse. Either way, it’s a good question. :)

I think the biggest problem has been the play of the quarterback(s). Trent Edwards has turned the ball over like it’s Christmas Day at the Salvation Army. It’s really hindered our team, despite the fact that the defense and the running game (finally) have been consistent.

hmmm...

somehow – i just don’t understand how underappreciated the bills best player is…
All i ever here is edwards has tanken since the scrambled eggs game… oddly enough buffalo’s demise sort of matches up
with their only quality D-lineman…

that said – I’ve always celebrated the Jauron hiring – the guy is buffalo’s version of Cam … nice guy who is in Way over his head, which is funny because for such a smart guy he sure is an idiot… and it doesn’t take too much of a post game presser to realize this.

by W NY Fins Fan on Dec 3, 2008 3:12 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bills' best player?

Please tell me you are referring to Marshawn Lynch or Lee Evans.

by Matty I on Dec 3, 2008 11:08 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

actually

the record says otherwise… when schoebel doesn’t play … they lose and they’ve been down right awful (think the AZ game was his last game?) and it’s not just this season either…

Lynch – who I loved last year, hasn’t had the same drive this season, and evans is a one trip pony if their ever was one…
he can go deep but has serious issues coming back to the ball and fighting through traffic… reed’s injury seems to indicate that he is a much more pivotal element to the offense (or at least to edwards psyche).

Boy, I have. I haven’t seen a negligible difference between his rushing style this year and last year. If anything, he’s better this year.

did you watch the clevland game?

memory is fading but ther was a 3rd or 4th quarter pass to him (a cross over the middle) where he very clearly avoided contact and ran ob where he would have taken the hit to get the first down last year…. memorable enough for me to ask my cowork IOUers if he’s hurt,,,

by W NY Fins Fan on Dec 3, 2008 6:57 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You’re talking about one of his 248 touches this year. And in case you didn’t notice, Lynch was a monster that night. I was AT the Cleveland game.

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Dec 3, 2008 7:44 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that would be the one

don’t think i ever said he wasn’t getting touches… i just found it odd that the guy would run
across the entire field, laterally and go OB – 2 yards short of a first down. the guy last year wouldn’t have worked that hard to avoid that contact… sheesh you could have kept the previous back for that….

but anyways – the guy who played last year – who single handedly brushed off 2 or three guys and drove an extra yard or two – i had great respect for…

this guy who runs OB 2 yards short of a first down after running laterally across the entire field… not so much.

by W NY Fins Fan on Dec 4, 2008 12:20 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Again… you’re talking about one of his 248 touches. That means on 247 of 248 touches, he’s the “last year” guy you described, but you’re judging him on one. That’s your prerogative, of course, but it makes no sense to me.

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Dec 4, 2008 6:35 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hey i never

said that was the only one… but that is the first one that came to mind when you asked me to cite something… plus – I have to say the bills fans i work with are pretty much in agreement that lynch isn’t playing up to the same level he played last year and that is from bills fans…

I think the NFL missed a trick not sending the BIlls to London this year

3 countries in one year would have been awesome. Even if they didn’t make the playoffs they could have a claim to be world champions, haha.

I’m glad they didn’t. If they’d taken an away game to London, fine, but I wouldn’t have been able to handle two home games in International territory.

And, honestly, who the hell in London would want to watch the Bills a year after watching your then- 1-15 Dolphins? :)

You’re close. We got word of Jauron’s contract extension the morning of our first loss to you guys, back in Week 8.

I’ve taken a lot of crap from my readers for being a fervent Jauron supporter, but I can’t fathom an NFL team keeping their head coach after squandering a 5-1 start and missing the playoffs, especially if they end that season 1-9. (Although, Detroit did something similar last season. Look where that’s got them!)

Chicken finger subs disgust me. :)

Any Confidence in JP Losman if he has to start?

and we can make all the Toronto jokes, but I think most of us realistically don’t want the Bills to move. The rivalry lives there just as much as it does here, and I don’t think Miami vs Toronto will carry the same weight. The fanbases are what make the rivalry great, and as much as we hate each other’s teams, the NFL would just be less fun without the great rivalries of this division.

You bet there’s turmoil – how could there NOT be turmoil when you’re 1-5 in your last six (the exact OPPOSITE record of y’all)? Evans’ comments are accurate, and while they do slightly intensify said turmoil, everybody’s on his side. The coaching and game-planning has been awful, particularly on offense.

you’re probably sick of this one so I’m sorry in advance after you take a deep breath and sigh while shaking your head…… : )

What is the whole story as to even why there is talk about moving to Toronto? Seems like everytime Miami has played up there, its a packed house with pretty decent fans who are loving their team even in a bitter cold environment. I’m on board with most people that I think it would be blasphemy to move your team to Canada of all places. Keep NFL in the USA. Good luck, and thanks.

OK, I’ll lay out why Toronto is scary to Bills fans.

  1. - Ralph Wilson is really old, nearing the end of his days on this Earth, and he’s said that when he passes, his family isn’t going to inherit the franchise due to estate taxes; essentially, at the point of his death, the team will go up for sale to the highest bidder.
  1. - Rogers Communications is an incredibly rich company that has already gotten a foot in the door with the franchise thanks to this whole Bills in Toronto Series gig.
  1. - Ted Lind, the late Ted Rogers’ right-hand man, has been a Bills season ticket holder for years, is quite clearly a big fan of the team, and would love to get the franchise closer to home.
  1. - There aren’t any Buffalo-area investors of note that could potentially compete with a Rogers in an open market for the team. Our best hope is the ever-awesome Jim Kelly, who has claimed for years that he’s assembled a group of investors that has enough finances to buy the team if it were to go up for sale. It remains difficult to imagine, however, a Kelly-led investor group out-bidding Canada’s richest media company – one that already owns the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sooo, yeah. That’s the Toronto thing.

Afterall TG really has never been into hockey, but he does like football and he does like to make money…

however, all that said i’m not sure rodgers has the money to outbid the LA group either though? think about it, the second the bills front office moves from buffalo to LA the value of the team goes from 600-800 mil to 900-1.3 billion… how can you outbid someone who will make 200-300 million just moving the team.

i believe there are two

groups and a little internet research says they have been trolling for any nfl team they can get…
and while the bill on the open market hasn’t really been openly discussed, it’s hard to argue with the math.

Really?

Wow, I hadn’t heard the Jags were under discussion.

That would be a shame. I like having a team in Jax. Beautiful stadium (pain in the a** to get in and out of if you don’t know the roads, but still, gorgeous stadium). Plus, I will take as many teams in Florida as I can…gotta love the home state.

yeah

the jags are the front runners for the LA team…. but take any small market team and
put them on the open market and there will be interest.

Sad kind of

They were a great football team last year, couldn’t sell out a stadium.

Whatever though, 2 Florida teams is better than 3.

So then, by your standards, Ronnie Brown have been borderline garbage as well, right?

RONNIE BROWN/RICKY WILLIAMS (combined stats)
289 carries, 1202 yards (4.2 average), 62 lg, 13 TD; 40 receptions, 344 yards (8.6 average), 47 lg, 1 TD

MARSHAWN LYNCH/FRED JACKSON (combined stats)
291 carries, 1205 yards (4.1 average), 50 lg, 8 TD; 70 receptions, 506 yards (7.2 average), 42 lg, 1 TD

And your runners put those numbers up with competent QB play. Save the touchdowns and 30 receptions on our end, they’re largely identical. Garbage? Not even close, on both counts.

I'm from Toronto and am praying for a team here but even I don't think it should be the Bills

Even though I’m from Toronto and want a team badly, I agree with most that don’t want the Bills to move. It wouldn’t be right. I love the rivalry. The city of Buffalo, loves the team and it’s one of the best places to tailgate and see a live game! I know it really is a marketing/economics issue but I hope it gets figured out because the Bills should stay in Buffalo. Even with this Bills in Toronto series and all the talk, I believe that the NFL is lightyears away from moving or opening a franchise in Canada…believe me, it’s not happening anytime soon, regardless of what you may hear.

As for the week, bring on JP!! I hope he starts! Even though Trent has been playing poorly as of late, his worst day(s) are better then JP’s best…. not literally but fairly close… I do hope it’s JP but with Trent being banged up, it might work to our favour if he plays. Either way, looking forward to the game (I have tickets and will be there decked out in Miami gear) and I think it will be exciting!

Brian

You guys have been good sports, and I thank you for that. I am a huge supporter in calling you guys Toronto this week. Sucky game to have moved.

Anyway, why are you guys playing the same offensive strategy we are? You know, the don’t run the ball with a great #23 lining up in the backfield strategy.

Also, do you think this 1-5 streak after your 5-1 streak is a threat to Jauron? I know he reportedly got the contract extension (which, has it ever been confirmed that it was signed?) after your great start. I like the coach, and you guys have always played hard under him, even if you haven’t been great. There’s a lot of talent on your team. Is it a coaching failure that has led you to fall apart these last 6 games – at least in the eyes of the fans? I know you said you are a Jauron supporter, so what do you think? Do you see Jauron back next year?

Thanks. And, like someone earlier said, you guys are the one team and set of fans in the AFC East I can stand. God, I hate the JETS and PATS!

"The dolphin is one of the fastest and smartest creatures of the sea. Dolphins can attack and kill a shark or whale. Sailors say bad luck will come to anyone who harms one of them." - Joe Robbie, Oct 8, 1965 upon announcing the name of the new AFL Miami football team.

We’re playing the same offensive strategy as you because our offensive coordinator is a moron. Or, rather, he’s been a moron the past two months.

I don’t think 1-5 is a threat to Jauron, but I certainly think 1-9 would be. If we don’t win 2-3 of our last 4 games, Jauron’s seat is going to be rather balmy.

Yes, coaching has been rather abysmal during our slide, but so has that lovely word “execution”. It’s not Jauron’s fault – or any of his staff’s fault – that Edwards is giving the ball away like free candy to toddlers. I wish the Bills were more prepared on Sundays, but we haven’t lost any of those 5 games by more than 10 points. Take away turnovers, and we’re in those games. Bills fans are anti-Jauron because he’s the easiest to blame, but our issues go far beyond the head coach at the moment.

I don’t view my blog as something that needs to be “controlled”, at least when it comes to people formulating their own opinions. I just happen to disagree with Bills fans on a lot of key issues.

There are a few people who agree with me in the sense that if the Bills were to fire Jauron after the season, there’d be few to no coaching prospects on the market that would be better. Everyone likes to say “Fire Jauron and hire Bill Cowher!”, but why in blue hell would Bill Cowher want to come to Buffalo? Basically, my opinion is that if you fire Jauron, you bring on Cowher, or you don’t fire him at all. It’s a minority opinion, but I’m not the only one promoting it.

A better question

is why anyone would want to go to Buffalo. I have a lot of friends there and they all want out, but even more they want to stay and bitch about it. I grew up in the Rochester NY area (Jills suburbs) and most people there gave up on the Jills ages ago and now worship the Sabres. That’s pretty sad, being obsessed with a B-level (at best) sport. Why not just obsess about curling? I went to Jills vs. Fins games back when it really mattered (Marino vs. Kelly), and I give their fans credit for being passionate but demerits for being retarded. Seriously, they must be inbred or something. The only fans more obnoxious might be the Jest. Not that I have any opinions on the subject.

talking smack is one thing

calling everyone here traitors and telling us to go kiss a Pats fan is different. You can say all you want to him, but just because we’re not on here letting him have it doesn’t make you a better fan than me, or anyone else on this blog. I’m not taking anything away from you, talk all the smack you want, but don’t call out Dolphins fans as traitors and Pats-lovers just because we’re having a conversation with an opposing fan instead of skewering him as a lower form of human life.

The actual kind words are flattering, guys, but frankly, I’m a little freaked out by the un-Dolphin-fan-ness of said words.

Jim Kelly was WAY better than Dan Marino.

There. And now, we return to regularly scheduled programming…

“Want” is a strong word. As I said, the comments were appreciated, albeit unexpected.

And you could respect me like no other man on earth, and I’d still hope you thought my team sucks and quote awesome movie references. :)

WTF?

How could you ever think Kelly was better than Marino? You obviously know nothing about football. How did you even get selected to run a blog? Seriously, have you ever watched a game? Kelly better than Marino. The only thing Kelly is better than Marino at is LOSING Super Bowls…and that’s only cause he got more practice at it (if only we could have made 4 Super Bowls with Marino). Come on.

I mean, next you’re going to be trying to tell me that Norwood was better than Stoyanovich. Watch some football this weekend please!!!! Maybe then you can post intelligently!

The only good player your team has ever had was Ricky Williams when the NFL suspended him.

Was that good enough a rant?

Ahhh...

The good ole days.

You know, the Dolphins are actually pretty good with kickers. I mean, Stoyanovich, Mare (the second most accurate kicker of all time for MOST of his Dolphins time), Feeley was good last year, DC$$ now. We really do seem to come up with decent kickers.

And, then there’s always punting machine Reggie Roby. A guy we cut becuase he was too GOOD a punter and ALWAYS out kicked the coverage team. What a beautiful ball that guy kicked.

the greatest thing about Roby

was he was so good, he was the only punter that wore his watch on the field. Is that cocky or what? lol “Hmmmm…….let me check the hang time on that one ….click…….27 seconds…not bad”

Any more idea for a sign to bring to game in TORONTO?

maybe I’ll just open up a post tonight for ideas.. it’s been a long time since I’ve done a sign..but I want to do it this time.. and I’m on rail seats with the overhang wall, so it’s a perfect spot..almost guaranteed for tv time.. escpecially if I use the NETWORK’s INITIALS…who has it this week? CBS?

CBS

is carrying the game,

It goes by the road team. Road teams from the NFC are carried by Fox and the AFC gets CBS

Gus Johnson

“… and it’ll be a 2nd and 9 from the Miami 34 yard line. Pennington takes the snap, drops back… and IT’S A DRAW PLAY TO BROWN!!! WOW, LOOK AT HIM GO! RRRRRRRRRONNIE BROWN FOR 3 YARDS AND IT’LL BE A 3RD AND 6!!!. THIS IS NFL FOOTBALL!”

I absolutely love Gus Johnson. He needs to do a play-by-play of my life.

LOL

Gus Johnson would be so busy if he decided to Life Play-by-Play. I think most everyone here would want that.. I’m laughing just thinking about how excited he would get over everyday things like the 10 minute morning piss, making a bowl of cereal, flipping channels aimlessly when no football is on…
