Pennington to be Starter next year?

I only bring this up because an article was just posted on profootball weekly's websie.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+East/Miami/WWHI/2008/wwhi121908.htm

Things haven’t gone according to script, and the Dolphins are just fine with that. The word we’re hearing out of Davie, Fla., is that Pennington won’t have any need to acquaint himself with the QB openings throughout the league this offseason because he’s earned not just the assurance of another year in Miami but another year in the starter’s saddle

Another interesting tidbit from the story is the OC Heening's success likely means he will want to stay out of retirement longer.

If you think back to the beginning of the year

we were all talking about Pennington just keeping the seat warm for Henne until next season. Now, though, I wouldn’t mind seeing CP10 start another season, because he’s accelerated the development of everyone else on the field. Henne can sit and learn until we need him.

Steve Young sat behind Montana forever.

After coming over from TB, of course, but that worked out pretty well for the 49ers.

Whoever is best

come training camp of next year……..is who will start for the Dolphins. I have total TOTAL faith in this Coaching staff and regime. We will do the right thing, and I will cheer like hell for whoever suits up at the QB spot on gameday.

right

and I have a feeling that if Henne beats out CP10 for the job, Chad will take to the backup job like a pro and continue to help out the young guys. He’s a true team guy.

He has 2 years

on his contract so obviously he’ll start next year. I think you would rather have the guy that possibly will lead the Dolphins to the playoffs this season start next season then Henne who has only come in when we’ve been blown out or we are blowing out a team. Henne will eventually get his chance.

by yboord028 on Dec 19, 2008 2:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

exactly

what’s the rush? Henne is getting better just by watching and learning from Pennington anyway..

Essentially when Henne was drafted you knew it was the end of Beck. Beck is currently 28 years old, so this season would of been his season to break out. But we signed Pennington and that got rid of Becks chance, and Henne is 23 so he has time to wait.

Also you see that when the game is being blown out on either side Henne is brought in. And as well Beck is always the 3rd QB inactive, So hes been left out of the game plan of the team. And more than likely he’ll be cut one of these years in the future.

If beck is 44 years old and henne is 23 and outplays henne geuss who is going to be starting. Age has nothing to do with it. whoever plays the best will start. Everyone is writing beck out because he couldn’t do nothing with a 1-15 team last year. This year he still was learning and had Josh McCown as a mentor nothing special. So now he has penne to learn off of. One more thing if bill parcells thought beck didn’t have any talent he would have cut him before the season started

For once,

stop making excuses and except reality.. Beck failed to win the job this season. Whether Pennington was brought in or not, Beck was not starting.

Everyone is writing off Beck because he looked dazed and confused last season, and he failed to beat out a journeyman who was later traded, and a rookie. He wasn’t benched because he’s not “Parcells choice.” He wasn’t benched because they just watched his film last season and decided he stinks. He’s on the bench because he had an entire offseason to impress the coaches and prove he could start for this team and he FAILED to do it.

If he comes around and becomes a solid player, I’ll be the first one to cheer him on, because it makes our team better. But until that happens, he’ll be criticized like anybody else.

I'd still rather see Henne

considering he was ahead of Beck in development during the offseason, and he’s 4-5 years younger

lolol

I can hope the guy succeeds, but it’s hard to make claims of his future Pro Bowl status when he hasn’t even proven he should be activated…

Was there ever any doubt?

Chad Pennington has been the best thing to happen to the Dolphins since Marino left. Why try and rush him out of the starting position with what he has done for every player on the team this year, look what that did for the Jets and Kellen Clemons. He is having his best season EVER as a pro and if healthy will be even better next season.

When the time comes to hand the reigns off to Henne OR Beck I think we will be in a much better state than ever before. I can’t wait to see the progress these two make with a full offseason with Pennington on their side.

not even a debate

cp10 will and must be the starter next year, and as many years as he can play after that. i really dont see our coaching staff deciding that cp10 is not our guy.
