Hot damn! I'm leading off John Clayton's mailbag this week...
In my now-insatiable bid to seek rightful recognition of our team's accomplishments this season from the national media, I thought I'd inbox one of the few ESPN analysts whose opinion I actually respect, and ask him to chime in on Pennington's MVP credentials.
Lo and behold, his casual response:
Q: Hey John, why aren't more people considering Chad Pennington for league MVP? If the Miami Dolphins emerge with the AFC East title, how could anyone argue a player has had more of an impact on a winning team than Pennington? His stats are comparable to most other QBs in the discussion, he only has six interceptions, and he's been working with a lot less talent around him. Thanks. Adam in Cairo
A: In calling around Tuesday, there seemed to be a sentiment that Pennington was slighted [in the Pro Bowl voting] to a major degree, but my guess is that he was a second or third alternate. The team won't confirm. Ben Roethlisberger didn't finish among the top three alternates, which I think was a disservice. I know his numbers haven't been great, but Roethlisberger is on a team that already has secured a bye in the playoffs, and he has made a lot of big plays in big games. I know Jay Cutler's numbers are better, but I might put Pennington's season up against Cutler's and go for Pennington. I'm not ready to put Cutler in the top three in the league. Pennington's Pro Bowl comes in about a week. If he can take a 10-5 Dolphins team to the Meadowlands and beat a 10-5 New York Jets team led by Brett Favre, Pennington would cherish that moment more than a trip to Hawaii.
Fine, so he didn't quite read answer my question, focusing instead on Chad's Pro Bowl snub.
It's all good, Mr. Clayton. My day is officially made.

That's awesome!
Congrats, rococo (or should I call you Adam in Cairo?)!

Pretty good use of the english language too....
Good job. Sorry you didn’t get you question answered! But, at least he admitted CP10 is better than Cutler.

Nice work man
I like it when us fins fans are made to look all eloquent and intelligent (to say nothing of world-travelled, lol).
Totally agree with your argument as well of course. Well played.

That is a comb over and a half, you can even see that the hair on the right of his head (as your looking at it) hasn’t quite grown enough to be combed over but it longer than the bit on the left.
Really at that point give up or get a proper wig.

If a guy looking like this can be featured weekly on national TV...
then there’s hope for the rest of us. Wouldn’t it be wild if he was married to some smoking hottie?
I like Clayton more than that Salisbury. Dork beats douche.

Now if you asked him a question about the Jets or Favre
Not only would he have readanswered it, but he would have ended it by saying, “yum yum gimme some Brett Favre in his Wranglers. Real comfortable jeans sexy ass bitch.”

Clayton is a goon lol
He completely missed the point of your question and ended up on a rant about Big Ben and Jay Cutler lol..
at least you got your question posted, that’s an accomplishment, they usually just throw out all the Dolphins questions

I think every NFL debate on ESPN ends with a rant about Big Ben...
so I can’t take it personal.
I find Clayton strangely endearing, if only because he looks like the guy who was never picked for any playground games, and ultimately decided to dedicate himself to memorizing box scores and playbooks until he would one day be considered an authority on a sport his schoolmates always deemed him to feeble to participate in.

hehehe....
Have you considered the time zone difference? Ask Mosul, he can relate.
I feel compelled to thank you both for your skepticism though, if anything it shows you care. haha….please don’t take this as a slight.
But yes, you are encouraged to believe this. Either that, or that I seek no greater glory than claiming an Egyptian NFL fan’s query on Danny O’Shea’s assistant coach’s column as my own, and that I was legally registered as one ‘Rococo Davenport’ at birth. If this is the case, then Patssuck456 is arguably the greatest surname ever recorded.

Check out this excerpt from Clayton's Week 16 1st and 10 piece.
10. Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs: Chad Pennington for MVP? It can be argued that the acquisition of Pennington has been the biggest reason the Dolphins are in contention. Favre has created at least a five-game improvement with the Jets, but Pennington has been remarkable. He’s one of the best in the league at getting passing yards on first down. The Dolphins have a chance to go from 1-15 to 10 victories if they can beat the Chiefs, and Pennington is on pace to become the first Dolphins quarterback since Dan Marino in 1997 to pass for more than 3,500 yards.
Now there’s the answer I was looking for.
