Media's Neglect of Dolphins is shameful
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've just about had it with the lack of attention our team is getting in the national media. All year long as the Dolphin ship has gained steam, I've looked for the pat on the back from the media, but to no avail. Most people in the media picked the 49ers to beat us. Consider the following examples:
1) Guys like Trent Dilfer picked Miami as the team to fizzle out in the 3 team horse race. Even when Miami beat San Francisco, he said " Oh well I still think they'll lose to the Jets."
2) Even last night on NFL Network, Terrel Davis and Jim "Playoffs?!" Mora picked Favre over Pennington as the QB they want down the stretch. Are you people not paying attention? Jim Mora mentioned how the Wildcat has helped this team be successul. Are you kidding me? The Wildcat hasn't been a consistent success for a month; Jim Mora, are you even watching any of our games? Are any of these guys even paying attention?
3)How does Mike Smith, as good a job as he's done in Atlanta, get more press than Tony Sparano? Sure, Petrino bolted town and Vick played with dogs, but they had more wins than we did last year.
4) Peter King hasn't mentioned Miami even once in the past two weeks in his Monday Morning Quarterback. He speaks of Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Baltimore's defense in reverential tones, but how about the team that hasn't allowed a TD in 3 ENTIRE GAMES?
It seems to me that everybody agrees that Miami is a nice little story, and it would be convenient for them to fade from playoff contention to let the big boys play. Maybe it's because the so called experts feel threatened that Miami is defying all arguments that a team cannot rebuild this quickly. It's amazing to me thhat in the most team oriented sport, individuals are the ones who are always covered the most. Whether it's the 100 yard receiver, RB, 300 yard QB, the individuals are getting all the attention, while the teams that are playing the best "team" football seem to be ignored. The 1972 Dolphins won in the same understated fashion, which is a major reason why some "experts" stil ldon't consider them the best ever. Hopefully we can keep this ship going, because I'm having the best time rooting for our team.
LET'S BEAT K.C.

nice post
It is pretty funny in a way how overlooked we really are. These “experts” are just going with whats nice and shiney and usually just play the favorites. You hardly ever hear them go out on a limb and say something different that 98% of the rest of their brood don’t say. I have heard Hoge on NFL Live on ESPN pick the Dolphins and give them some love, I think he’s just trying to be different just like some of those ugly ass ties he wears though.
We know what we got, Sparano knows what he’s got, and Parcells and Ireland know as well. Thats good enough for me

I'm glad
I’m very superstitious when it comes to media attention. It seems like teams choke when the media makes predictions. The Titans and Giants were supposed to be locks for their respective number one seeds but now they have all kinds of question marks. The New York Jets were also the team to beat in the AFC after knocking off the Titans, and they really haven’t shown that dominance since. The list could go on and on. I hope they all pick Kansas City this week. Being the underdog is a good thing.

I'll admit it is a little irritating...
…but still, things generally end up with the media being proven wrong.

agree with u guys
To me, I’m also superstitious, but I agree that so much of what the media says is supposed conventional wisdom. Rarely does somebody make an actual prediction.
Another good example is that I heard people mention how Mike Tannebaum (GM of the Jets) should get executive of the year? I just don’t get it. The guy opened up his checkbook to many guys, including King Favre. But what has he done? Has he made any significant trades? Does anyone mention his #1 bust Vernon Ghloston. Of course I’m digressing here, but you get the point.
It’s funny how all these years, Marino and Miami were getting so much attention, but we kept disappointing as a team. This year has been a complete reversal from the Marino years.

I hate it but I somehow think it motivates this team to go out and prove we can do what they don’t think we can. If we keep taking care of our business the media can catch up with us later. This season has been a long time coming for us fans that have had our hopes dashed over and over again by expecting too much…
Expect nothing and you will always be more excited when we some how pull it out. Just as Peeezy did when he made the biggest play of the game when it mattered most last Sunday !!!!

yup
Dolphinator – good call. I’d rather other teams wilt under high expectations like the Jaguars and Chargers. I don’t want us to get jinxed in any way.

agree with what you say
and the problem is, the guys on TV really don’t do any research for themselves. They know what happened last year, and they know about the high-profile news stories, so that’s what they talk about. New England went undefeated last year, so they must be amazing again. The Jets have the Legend Favre, so they’re the team to beat. Carolina doesn’t play in a marquee city, so they stink. Miami lost 15 games last year, so they should still stink.
It’s hard to find real, unbiased analysis anymore. Which is sad, considering how every stat and news story you could possibly want is right at your fingertips. Shouldn’t analysts and broadcasters know MORE instead of less?

I think our style of team has a lot to do with it to be honest.
A solid team that plays without mistakes and with a lot of heart is much less interesting to Joe Q. Ignorant than a team full of ‘superstars’ (let’s say the Saints) even if that solid team is a much better team with better players. The first style of team is seen as boring and the second is seen as what the public wants. The Titans suffered from this earlier in the year before they got to around 10-0 and no one could ignore them any more. (although it was clear everyone in the media still wanted to. btw, I loved Mercury Morris calling the media out on that.)
It’s funny in a way, because our ‘boring’ team has been involved in so many games decided on the last drive with quality play on both sides of the ball. Almost every week has brought a heart-stopping classic (Buffalo excepted, lol). On the other hand the Saints games are often sloppy shootouts that turn into a blowout either way, yet ESPN etc. laps it up. (Don’t know if you can tell yet, but we get the Saints every week in Europe and I have seriously grown to HATE them.)
Also with Parcells just having gone from ESPN last year I think they want to give it some time before they come up with all the Dolphins stories based around his turnaround – it could be seen as them ‘bigging up’ they’re own guy, which in fairness everyone hates. Pennington is also seen as yesterday’s news – New York is one of the biggest markets and they damn sure don’t want to read about what idiots they’ve been.
It is what it is. If we win the Superbowl I have a feeling Sports Illustrated will save us the cover. You win and eventually you get kudos. Just takes longer than it should sometimes.
Football isn't a matter of life and death - it's far more important than that.

The Wildcat was dominant
Against the 49ers wasn’t it?

I say fuck'em all
The Dolphins are doing awesone
Let them jack off to Eli Manning getting sacked 8 times on Sunday
Let them jack off to Haynesworth’s injury
Let them jack off to the “success” story of the Patriots
Let them jack off to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Let them jack off to their favorite soap opera in the offseason that never shaves and somehow makes it in to the playoffs. Number 4, this year is not your year chump ass.
All of us people know what we know about Miami
We have seen improvement
We have hope restored
And none of us can be ashamed of this team
And that my friends is something SI, ESPN, FOX or anyone can take away
Now lets complete mission 2W and make them notice us, punk asses
