Don't you...forget about me... ( via EMBQ)

Hello Dolphin Fans!

Chris here from Arrowhead Pride here to answer any and all of your questions about the Kansas City Chiefs. We've been busy over at AP covering the resignation of long time Chiefs' GM and President Carl Peterson and we're switching back over into game mode now.

I'll be sending our readers over here to answer questions as well.

Good luck this weekend and cross our fingers for no injuries to either team.

Fire away!

Editor's Note by Matty I: Be sure to head over to AP to help answer the Dolphin questions that they ask.

Welcome

first of all, congrats on King Carl resigning, I’m sure that’s an early Christmas present for Chiefs fans..

secondly, my question is.. How do the majority of KC fans feel about Larry Johnson? I know he’s had his share of run-ins with the law and butting heads with coaches, does this reflect at all on how the fans look at him?

ANSWER

LJ is a giant douche. While he isn’t nearly as big a jackass as Joey Porter, he’s a serious meat gazer. But just like a nasty case of herpes, we’re stuck with him.

by HIV 2 Elway on Dec 17, 2008 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

lol

that “jackass” you’re talking about is only starting in the Pro Bowl, leading the AFC in sacks, and a key component in a top 10 defense. And last I checked, Porter doesn’t spit on women in clubs. Joey Porter > Larry Johnson.

I'm sure you wouldn't be saying that

if he played for your team. Go ahead, find a comment from anybody on the Dolphins this year that’s negative about Porter.

What's he done this season to make you think he's a dickhole?

talk shit in the media? throw his helmet in celebration? have one lapse of discipline and apologize afterwards?

The guy has been a leader of this team all season. Emotionally, physically, on and off the field. I’ll defend him because I fail to see what he’s done this year to warrant that description.

And coming from a Chiefs fan who probably owns a Larry Johnson jersey, I don’t wanna hear about jackasses.

Chad Pennington is a leader

Never missed two games after being shot in the ass. Never jumped a guy in Vegas. Never talked inordinate amounts of shit. Never guaranteed a win (Joey P did last year which we lost, oops). Humble, well-spoken, well liked, but still talented, undaunted or flustered by difficulty. Still plays at a high level without a high level of trash to go with it. Chad Pennington is a leader.

this season and this year exclude Joey Porter from what makes him Joey Porter. You get this year and every year before it. You can’t have one without the other.

Why is Joey Porter considered a leader? All he does is rush the passer. He doesn’t call audibles, he’s not a team captain. He has the swagger that gives the defense some character, cool, but so did Zach Thomas – he wasn’t a dickhole.

I like what Joey Porter does for the team. He contributes, he can say whatever he wants. I don’t agree with what he says half the time or does half the time. He gets us wins. When he stops getting us wins then he shouldn’t be tolerated anymore.

Hi Chris

First off, I’m going to re-post something that I put up over at Arrowhead Pride, not sure if you caught it, but this will save me some retypeing.

Just want to add, that from my experience, Chief fans are pretty cool in my book. I live in Nebraska, so there are quite a few people around here who cheer for the Chiefs. They’re good people. When I attended my first NFL game in ‘92 at Arrowhead, where the Chiefs blew out the Dolphins 42-7, I was treated really good, even though I stuck out like a aqua and coral thumb in the sea of red. (which was like a twilight zone moment for a Husker fan). One person even offered to by me a consolation beer after Marino got sat for "ineffectiveness". Ouch. It was like going to see VanHalen, and Eddie didn’t show up. Good luck come Sunday, lets hope for no injuries and a good game!

That being said. The local media here and radio stations are saying that because of all the bad things going on with the Chiefs, that there may be a low turnout. That surprises me, your Chiefs are pretty diehard about going to the game no matter what. Do you see this happening come Sunday? Take care!

lets rec’d this up so it stays for the week boys

There's been less and less attendance

Last week’s game against San Diego, the stands were half full (which prompted many to speculate that this was part of the reason to can King Carl). This is the first season I’ve seen Arrowhead like this. But a little winning will help the situation.

by Eric Allen on Dec 18, 2008 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

HuskerDolphin, I'm not Chris either...

… but I’d also like to add that the fans probably don’t get enough credit for their smarts. The last 10 years of Carl’s Reign of Terror were awful and yet we supported the team through thin and… thinner. At some point, though, a statement had to be made. The best way to do that is to hit the team in the pocketbook. For all his mediocre achievements, Carl could put butts in seats and keep the goose laying the golden eggs. Now that’s gone and so is he.

People are incredibly enthused around here. I have no idea what the turnout will be Sunday, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was substantially better than last week. The ironic thing is that next year we could be just as bad, but I guarantee you the stadium will be rocking all year long.

I opened the door to see my 18-month old and, in a trembling voice said, "You will never remember what it was like to have to root for the Chiefs under Carl Peterson."

Also not Chris

Here’s the thing, for the most part the fan base in KC has changed significantly. We still love to show up and b-b-q before the game. We still love to pick on visitors in a good-hearted manner, while offering them some food and beer. We still love the Chiefs. But the Chiefs fan of yesteryear is gone. We used to be a working-class team, and blue-collared boys would show up in the freezing rain for a chance to drink beer and watch football. Then in the 90s we became a good team and ticket prices went up. Those good ol’ boys can’t afford to go to the games anymore and only the influential can get season tickets, and they don’t see the fun in sipping champagne in the cold and wind, especially if the team is losing. I’m almost glad we’re going through this painful rebuilding process, because it gives us a chance to rebuild the fan base as well. We need to get back to the days of Average Joes showing up no matter the weather or record, cooking the best b-b-q in the nation, drinking beer, having fun and yelling so loud the team gets penalized for excessive crowd noise (I think we’re the only team to ever be penalized for that).

I hope for both of you that you get those Average Joe types back to the stadium. Like I said, I’ve been there in the early 90’s, and I’ve had lots of friends that have gone to Arrowhead throughout the years, and they’ve all came back saying good things about the fans. There are lots of Chief fans around here, and one thing I noticed was that, like Husker fans, they know how to support their team. Good luck too you in the future, just not so much come Sunday though!

No doubt in my mind, Arrowhead is the best smelling stadium in the NFL. Wish you could bottle that bbq smell and use it for car freshener! : )

For us in the 90’s ticket prices got so damn high at Joe Robbie that I couldnt afford to go anymore…I havent been to a Fins home game since like ’98. It sucks. Verdict is still out on Dorsey...

but he has shown flashes. If you look at his rookie stats (38 tackles, 1 sack) compared to the rookie seasons of Albert Haynesworth (30 tackles, 1 sack) and Warren Sapp (26 tackles, 3 sacks), they are quite comparable and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Dorsey won’t be a serious factor until we get a pass rusher next to him. I’m hoping we address that with our top 5 pick this year as opposed to taking Bradford or (shudders) Stafford.

Major injuries like Noodle Arm Pennington?

For a DT, Dorsey is holding his own as a rookie. Is he all world? Not yet. He isn’t as much of a concern as first round disappointments like DJ and Tamba.

And that is why the guy mispelled your name in the end zone?

Chiefs have a turnover margin of +8

With 27 turnovers, how are the Chiefs 2-12? It doesn’t make any sense. The Fins are +12 in the T/O margin, and accordingly, have won 9 games. So what is the Chiefs major malfunction? They can get the ball away from the opposing team but can’t win more games?

Couple responses

While Dorsey has been no world beater, there is a lot of optimism for Chiefs fans that he could be good in the future. He really needs some help on the rest of the line. LIke stated elsewhere, his rookie numbers are comparable to Sapp and Haynesworth. Also, think about Demarrio Williams from Houston. Yes, he plays a different position, but his rookie season was considered a bust, but look at him now, he is a force for the Texans.

On Thigpen….welll we might be a little over-optimstic about our boy from Coastal Carolina, (he holds virtually every record there because they’ve only had a football program for a decade or so) but he really is a play-maker. He leads QB’s in rushing (not always a good thing) and throws a very pretty ball. He sometimes relies too heavily on T-Gon but why not pluck it in to a hall of famer? Think a less experienced Tony Romo w/ out all the media attention.

For our sake I hope you guys get to see a good showing from Thigpen on Sunday but the cold weather could affect that. As for Porter beating him up this weekend, well I will defend my boy and say he is going to run around him. I wouldn’t be surprised, though if LJ has his thumb up his ass and lets Porter through one time and he drags him down.

Good luck Dolphins fans, I will be there Sunday, rooting my Chiefs on from the comfort of a box suite my buddy hooked me up with.

TEs are a safety valve

which means he probably isn’t making complete reads when dropping back into the pocket. He might be missing out on scoring opportunities but it doesn’t seem like he’s having trouble finding the endzone either.

I'd agree that TE's are normally safety valves

Tony Gonzalez is not your average tight end. He is the greatest Tight End ever and lines up in the slot quite a bit. Now, that being said, he still could be a safety valve on some occasions, but I think it’s more of a thing that Thigpen really trusts him because he knows he’ll catch almost everything. Another part of it is that Dwayne Bowe is the only other receiving option the Chiefs really have, and he catches cases of the drops every few games.

First of all...

Having a name like HIV 2 Elway, oh yeah that’s cool. You probably have that on the license plate of your mom’s station wagon. You drive around wearing your Derrick Thomas jersey and your balls hanging out thinking that you’re team is something special. But you forget the days of Word, Okoye, Deberg ARE OVER! There is no greatness in KC. LJ doesn’t stand for Larry Johnson, it stands for log jam. because first off the KC Royals are the biggest log jam in baseball. When the Chicago White Sox take a shit, the Royals come out. And John Elway fucked your sorry ass team in the ass, so that’s why you wish he contracted AIDS.

I second the notion below me. Why do you come here when you guys won two games? I can take the high road. But being a Sox fan, I choose not to.

Anyway, I thought I would make people laugh. You included.

Good luck and enjoy the game.

I'm gonna clean this up..

serious Chiefs question.. what do you see as your biggest need going into the offseason, and how (or with who) would you like to see that need filled?

Everyone says QB...

… but I don’t buy it. Thigpen has done some dumb stuff (nice equation with Mark Brunell, by the way), but people forget he’s basically a rookie making rookie mistakes. His Wonderlic was high and he’s still learning the ropes. Of course, Favre is one of his idols, so he’ll probably always have a wild streak. As you can tell, I’m a Thiggy apologist who thinks he deserves another year at the helm.

To directly answer your question, I think the Chiefs are going to break the record for least sacks in a season, so a pass rusher is the biggest need. A local radio station has been doing a promo all season comparing Jared Allen’s sack total to that of the entire Chiefs defense. Needless to say, it started out as a joke (as good as Allen is, no one thought he would out-sack an entire team) and Allen is winning by 5.5 right now.

Also, our linebacking corps is old and terrible, so that has to be addressed.

I opened the door to see my 18-month old and, in a trembling voice said, "You will never remember what it was like to have to root for the Chiefs under Carl Peterson."

Hallelujah. Our long nightmare is over.

by chiefstatnut on Dec 18, 2008 8:53 AM EST up reply actions

So you guys are looking for somebody like

Orakpo from Texas or Johnson from GATech? Can’t argue with either pick there, gotta get some help for Dorsey.

I haven’t been able to see much of Thigpen (don’t get Chiefs games down here too often) so I don’t know what to say about him.. I pride myself on scouting QB’s, so I’d like to actually see him instead of listening to the talking heads at ESPN.

and don’t worry about the equations, if you search the site, we do it to everyone. Trent Edwards got it bad, Vernon Davis got it, and now Thigpen is this weeks target lol

Thigen

160+ straight passes without an INT. that will do for this season. Also appears to have some leadership skills.

I reserve judgement until I can see what he can evolve into next season. If all he can do is run a semi-effective spread, then he can retire to back up, until he learnes to play the position.

Defense

plain and simple. I think we will spend big for a pass-rush D end and I hope we draft Laurinits, the MLB out of Ohio State. We have a lot of needs, but our defense is abysmal and needs to be addressed. To make it better, we get some blue-chip players and completely turn over our defensive coaching staff. We should probably look to each the Giants or Titans and take one of their position coaches as our new D coordinator and let him and whoever our new GM is bring in an entirely new coaching staff.

What’s up with Damon Huard? Is he just really inconsistent or is he just bad? He was Marino’s choice to replace him when Marino (forcefully) retired. I like the guy and liked what he was able to do for us way back when. The little bits that I have seen of him in KC makes him look decent, but I know you guys aren’t happy with him.

Still not Chris

Huard was reliable but is just too darn old to play behind a weak line. The quarterback in KC right now has to be able to run for his life and Huard (or Croyle) couldn’t do that. If you put a solid line in front of Huard this late in his career he could be a solid B at QB, good game manager but that’s about it. With our line? We need someone who can run like an RB because he will always have defenders in his face.

by Chiefs4Life on Dec 18, 2008 11:26 AM EST up reply actions

+1

Huard is a fine backup, but during a youth movement it makes watching every game awful. Look at our offensive numbers from games Huard started this year, compared to Thigpen, you’ll see the difference.

Most of the roster in Miami have been change. CPennintong used to play in NY, so it will be difficult ,as any game, but it could be done. They thing here is, that our coaching staff is NOT overlooking you guys. That’s the big difference from other years teams.

I think they are going to be a little shocked

initally, but then they should settle in. I worry about the receivers mostly. I’ve sat in Lincoln in weather like this, and when younger played football in it,and unless you’ve experienced it, you just don’t understand how frickin cold it is! The football seems to weigh more, and its hard as a rock. I hope the gloves help. I do think though, that Coach Sparano will have them mentally ready and the game plan should actually help in conditions like this. Hope they pack the warm stuff!

honestly

there’s a few guys that will be affected, but a good number of our impact guys have played in cold weather before, so it shouldn’t affect them beyond pre-game warmups.

Pennington spent his career in NY. Porter spent his career in Pittsburgh. Ginn played college ball at Ohio St. Jake Long played in Michigan. Will Allen (I believe) played with the Giants. Langford played up in New England somewhere if I’m not mistaken. Ricky played a couple seasons in Canada.

So we should be alright. And the way Pennington throws it, it won’t be breaking any hands. He throws a very catchable ball, not a laser rocket like Favre.

I don't know if there are any studies or facts

on how much cold weather affects players. But I do know for average humans, when they leave a climate for a certain amount of time, they adjust to their new climate pretty quickly. My example, I have a couple family members in SoCal that grew up here in Kansas. When I go there and they have lows in the 50’s, they bundle up and think it’s the coldest thing ever and I am thinking, this isn’t bad at all. When they come back in the winter they are shocked at how cold it is even though they grew up here and lived here most of their lives.

NFL players, however, aren’t average humans, so I guess we’ll see if the weather does anything to slow the Dolphins down or not.

by I need more Esteban on Dec 18, 2008 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

and I hope it doesn’t affect them as much as it should lol. But those guys I listed, every one of them except WAllen have only been here for 2 years or less. So hopefully they’re bodies haven’t yet completely adapted away from the cold…

Who knows, when it’s that cold, it has to have some affect on everyone…

Oh, and if you put enough alcohol in it, it’ll keep it from freezing. I’ve done it with lots of things, like capt. morgan and coke, jack and coke, wine, even beer. Everyone should have a bota bag!

true about Penningtons throws

but its still different. There is no “squish” factor in the ball, if that makes sense, which makes it more difficult to grab. His style will definitely help though. A Marino thrown ball would probably break fingers in this kinda cold…… : )

he just doesn’t leave guys out to dry. If a WR is going to get walloped, the ball won’t be thrown.

We need a coach

Who can actually put together a solid gameplan, who knows clock management, when to use timeouts, and play to our strongsuit which is actually our offense. He tries time, and time again to put our defense in the position to win the game, and it is always the same, failure. Hell he has never even been a coordinator before.

Anyone NOT HERM.

Seriously, he is a joke of a head coach. His latest press conference he said 90-95% of the guys on the roster would be back. That’s including guys signed off the street midseason to be starters. That’s only moving around about 2-6 guys on the WHOLE TEAM in the offseason. Seriously, aside from his game prep (or lack there-of), terrible decision making, and clock mismanagment, his statements are completely retarded. The KC media is way to easy on this guy.

"In the NFL, coaching has to make a difference when the games are close. The talent level across the league from team to team is too similar. Great head coaches do their best work in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. Instead, we’ve seen Herm blow timeouts, put the game in the hands of the league’s worst defense, and most recently, run Larry Johnson behind Wade Smith and Adrian Jones as if they were Tim Grunhard and Will Shields in their prime.
