Few Questions, Word of Warning, and a Funny

First, I have a few questions. Yeah, there are tons of fanposts about our standings but I just wanted to get a few things clear:

1) Does the Jets game next week really matter? I kept hearing on the radio today that the Jets are 0-3 on the west coast. They are facings a decent Seattle team but I do not see what a Jets loss would really do. They would be one done and we would be division winner for the moment but if we still lose to the Jets, we end up losing it, right? Thanks for whoever clears that up.

2) How would we get the wild card? I see that the Ravens are tied with us now but have the conference record. They have a few tough games against the Cowboys and the Jags. If they lose 1 of them and we lose 1, they would still be up because of the conference record, right? Is it just us and the Pats inching for it?

3) Finally, I have a question about flex scheduling. I have been begging all year for a Jets Phins showdown at the end of the year where winner goes on and loser goes home. It would be awesome for it to be a Sunday night game. However, after looking on NFL.com, there is no primetime game for week 17. Is that true, is there really no sunday night football that week? I would be pretty pissed.

Now to the word of warning. Driving home today, I listened to a ton of Phin fans calling in and being on top of the world, looking forward to the Jets game. This worries the hell out of me. I think I may be alone in looking ahead to this Chiefs game. I am TERRIFIED of this game, as much as the Jets game. Their defense causes tons of turnovers and if we keep playing the way we have the past few weeks on offense, we are in trouble. I think our defense will compete since KC also causes a ton of turnovers but Thigpen has been fire and I think Gonzalez really can tear up our LB corp. You add in the weather and probably the loudest stadium in the NFL, you have me panicing. Please do not assume a win. This will be a dog fight and one that I am not confident in.

Now to the funnies. Listening to the radio also caused me to laugh a lot. Jets fans kept calling in talking crap. One said that Pennington sucks in cold weather...even though he played in NY for so long and did pretty well. The funniest part was when the Jets fan kept pushing the issue and the host simply said, "Do you remember what happened last time Favre played in the cold?" I almost crashed laughing. The last funny was when a Latino called in asking who would the Phins face if we won the divison. The host pretty much said hte standerd answer "It isn't for sure but it looks like it will be the Colts or the Ravens" there was a pause and the Latino responed "HOLY CRAPPPPPPPPPPPP!" It was hilarious.

Take care all and rep your Phins. I haven't had such a large, stupid grin in my face in a real long time. Enjoy it and go Phins!

Yes even if the jets lose next week and we win then lose to them they would have the head to head tiebreaker so we still have to win out. The wild card would be a little different in that we would need to be one game ahead of Baltimore because we lost head to head with them and the Patriots are going to be the ones likely to claim a wild card spot while the jets and the dolphins will have to win the division. I don’t know about the Sunday Night Football game but I don’t see them not having a game. And Kansas City worries me to because they are not pushovers and our offense has to step it up because Kansas can score a lot with Gonzalez. It will be a close game but we are good at close games so it will be real interesting.

Jets lose to SEA and Fins lose next week the Fins still would need to beat the Jets in week 17 to be over them in the division. However if the Pats win out they would take the division simply on record alone.

The Fins can get the wild card if the Ravens lose out and the Fins lose to K.C and beat the Jets. Doing so puts the Fins over the Jets but at 10-6. The Pats would also have to win out to get the division.

Although if the Fins lose to K.C and Jets win at Sea, then the Fins beat the Jets in wk 17, the Fins and Jets would have the same overall, conference and division record. Wheres the tie breaker come in?

Best case scenario: Miami Wins out, and Baltimore wins out, knocking the Pats out. Hate to see the Pats make it. Or I would love to see the Pats lose at least one game, hopefully next week.

Nice write up and read JP

As far as 1 and 2 are concerned, I’m just going with what Coach Sparano has been saying all along. We control what we do, let others do what they will. Its up to us to beat the Chiefs and the Jets and that will decide what happens to us. It gives me a headache with all these “what if” scenerios if you know what I mean.

Sitting here in Nebraska, about 4 hours drive from KC, surrounded by Chiefs fans and knowing what the weather is. Yea, its a concern. As I type this, the weather outside is -3 with a windchill of -27 degrees. If you’ve never experienced that, its COLD! Put that into football conditions, and its harsh. Every hit is numbing, every scratch electrifying, every time you hit the turf, its like falling on concrete. It takes a toll. The Dolphins haven’t dealt with that this year.

Hopefully it warms up by Sunday. But yea, we have got to play better football going into Kansas City. Their fans will show up no matter what. Losing season, bad weather….they’ll be there. We’ve got to have our helmets on tight, and bring our A game. This one concerns me as well. Just a fyi to all, KC fans are really cool. I have no animosity to them in the least. They are proud of their team, and football smart, and from my personal experience, will say “good game” to you , no matter what the outcome.

As far as the last part, I guess I would have had to be there….lol j/k.
We got Nine………..Lets get TEN!!! (but bring the thermal underwear)

Nice

Yeah, I really think KC fans are one of the best. Like you said, they are a proud franchise and seem down to earth. I hope the bubble can be turned on to max AC so the players can feel the freeze before they make the trip!

Let this season BE GINN!

dude, you get props for your post

i have been saying that KC is going to be a tough game… i agree with you, the Fins will need their A game, and they will need to be able to run the ball.

Also, KC has been scoring, so i would not be surprised to see a shootout, weather permitting.

Question 3)

There is a Sunday night game in week 17. NBC doesn’t have to pick it until 6 days before. So they don’t have to decide until after the Monday night game next week.

Nice!

I thought it was always 10 days before. Is it different for week 17?

NVM

I see. It is special for week 17 like you said. It is normally 12 days but it is 6 for week 17.

“In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice.” – NFL.com

That's one of the best ideas going..

nothing sucks more than the final Sunday Night Game featuring a meaningless matchup between “shoulda been good” Cleveland, and “tremendous failure” Cincinnati that looked appetizing 4 months ago..

It's basically "DIVISION OR BUST"!

Win out…and win the division…lose one…or two..and not win the division and it’s basically over.. getting one of the two WILDCARD spots will be almost impossible but now that Balt lost on Sunday it did get a little bit better but still very unlikely mainly due to the fact that Balt has the head to head vs us…. as far as I can tell… we CAN’T catch INDY for one of the wc spots.. even if they lose their last two (and we win one/lose one) we would be tied and I’m fairly certain they have our common oppenents/conf record tie breaker…so that leave ONLY Balt and we would need them to their LAST TWO GAMES (with us losing only 1) and then we could at least beat them out but that’s not taking into account that we would have to be concerned about New England/Jets that could get the final wc if Balt loses two..

So basically… we NEED TO WIN OUT to GET IN! it’s the best we could hope/ask for! THE FATE OF THIS SEASON IS IN OUR HANDS!! ….UNLIKE NEW ENGLAND!! AHAHAHAH… they can win their last several games (the last 2 plus what they won up to this point) and possibly NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS and//or win the division because of MIAMI/JETS for tiebreakers…and then the BALT/INDY wc…. I HOPE TO GOD THAT N.E> doesn’t get in.. if Balt doesn’t lose and either Miami or Jets win division..they’ll be out no matter what!

BUT GET THIS!!… it’s now VERY POSSIBLE….that TWO teams with 10-6 RECORDS could miss the playoffs!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT! WOW! and it would likely be in our AFC EAST division! Let’s say we win out.. and win the division.. the JETS AND NEW ENGLAND could end up 10-6 and both MISS THE PLAYOFFS!! or we could be one of those teams (if we lose the last game against the Jets) and be one of the two 10-6 teams that don’t make it…that would hurt and be crazy for the league…especially with Denver likely to win division with a so-so record… .. heck. we could win the division, the Jets could be 10-6 and New England be 11-5 and they both don’t get in!! that would be nuts!!

anyways.. one game at a time…mission 2W continues.. K.C. is going to be a BATTLE and another huge step towards our ultimate goal… we control our fate (for now) and hopefully it stays that way and that we’ll have another HOME GAME coming up in JANUARY! we can (and I BELIEVE) we WILL do it and MAKE HISTORY!!

you get me hyped up. I like reading your posts lol

Mission 2W will be a success, and we will be home for the playoffs… I’m already looking for playoff ticket prices.. And if we get in, I’m throwing a Phinsider tailgate, so anybody that can go, better meet me there lol
