Who do you root for Thursday?

I was looking at the upcoming schedule and was wondering who we all should root for this Thursday night game between the Jets and the Pats. Both are tied for first with 6-3 records and 2-1 within the division. So by the numbers, there is no clear cut way to pick our favorite. Schedule wise, we still have a game left between both of them but the Pats game would be at home while the Jets would be the last game of the season at their house. I am rambling so I will end with my opinion. I think we root Jets because the Pats seem to be heating up and were the favorites all year to take the division. I also think we have more of a chance of beating them coming up. Post your thoughts!

you root for...

a numerous amount of injuries.

im kidding, but not really.

In my opinion, you dont root for anyone, you just root against one side a little less. Im going to hope the Pats win for two reasons. My roommate is a jets fan, and i hate that he thinks they are better than the dolphins. I also think that the pats are better than the jets, and we need to get the jets out of the playoff picture asap so we can scoop either the division or atleast a wildcard.

The Pats (for logistical reasons)

I’ve thought long and hard about so many scenarios and situations that can happen from now until the end of the year (I hate that I do it cuz it really doesn’t matter other then Miami holding there own).
We’ve lost to the Jets once already and have beaten the other two. The Jets have a somewhat easy (winnable) schedule the rest of the way (minus a couple of games). If the Jets don’t lose at least one or two games before ours at the end of the season, then no matter what we do, we could be cooked for the division or wildcard. We have to beat them (in NY) at the end of the year (in the cold) just to even up the head to head so that this tiebreaker doesn’t automatically go to them.

Plain and simple here… PATS win on Thursday and then WE BEAT PATS next Sunday (after we beat Oakland of course)= Miami #1 in the division and truely controlling their own destiny for winning the division! Even though we could be tied with the Jets after this scenario (the may put us behind them in the standings because of the ONE head to head so far) we would control our own destiny because winning out the rest of the way would have us WINNING THE DIVISION, no matter what anyone one else does (we would beat JETS at end of year and have division tie-breaker and all other tie-breakers for either Buff or N.E.)..

So that’s it.. Pats on Thurs could lead to our ultimate control of what happens. Yes, there’s a million scenarios and possibilities but this one would work best to our control.

I'm rooting for....

a giant sinkhole to appear and swallow the whole stadium, both teams and all of their fans.

But your right, one way or another it doesn’t matter.

Seriously?

Root for

The Patriots!!!! Yes those damn patriots.

Patriots beat the Jets, then hopefully Miami beats Oakland so then we’re tied with the Jets. Jets play Tennessee next and I’m sure will lose. Miami next plays New England and hopefully wins.

(we have the tiebreaker on Buffalo so who gives a shit about what they do)

If all thay plays out then the first place team in the AFC East is none other than…

THE MIAMI DOLPHINS!!!!!!

I'm rooting for

The Dolphins……………thats the only real control we have. All of that other stuff doesn’t matter, its only the Dolphins that are the masters of their own destiny. All of that other stuff will iron itself out. LOL btw…….i really laughed out loud reading what alwaysafan and Daren said, good stuff………and another lol “im kidding, but not really” thats gold

Niether really

but if the Pats beat the Jets this Thursday. And (if) we win this Sunday, then beat the Pats when they come to Miami on the 23rd, guess who is atop the AFC east all by themselves?

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Nov 9, 2008 11:31 PM EST reply actions

asusuming that is

the Jets lost AT Tennesse. -)

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

by Neo on Nov 9, 2008 11:34 PM EST up reply actions

Root for the Pats

It looks like the division and possibly the wildcard will come down to tie breakers, and Miami has already beaten NE once on the road, the next game is in Miami. Miami already lost to NYJ and they would have to beat them on the road to even up at 1 and 1. Hope the jets trip up on their own so that game won’t matter because deep down I don’t know I have confidence in stopping Favre in a big game with alot of very young inexperienced players on the road in that environment. But there really needs to be an improvement in the Special team.

by marcr913 on Nov 9, 2008 11:34 PM EST reply actions

he right

you definitely want the Pats to win. The patriots winning makes it more likely that Miami wins the division.

we root against the colts and ravens/steelers as well. Dont forget that both wc’s could come from our division

The Pats

For the simple reason that they are going to be coming in mad enough after the destruction we did to them. If we go into NE after they lose, they are only going to be that much more motivated.

We have NE at home......

we kicked their ass in their house

by cbdolphin on Nov 10, 2008 2:02 AM EST up reply actions

Oh and the question at hand

I say we root for the Pats to win. The Jets are alot worse for us to match up playerwise. Plus I would rather go against a Cassell in the middle of the season to determine the playoffs than a Brett Farve in the last game of the year to determine the play-offs

by cbdolphin on Nov 10, 2008 2:04 AM EST up reply actions

You're right

I knew that. Don’t know why I wrote it as going into NE.

Please don’t take my Dolphins Phan card from me.

lol if your a fan, it can never be taken away

unless you start rooting for a team that is the Dolphins or playing against the Pats/Jets/Jills

by cbdolphin on Nov 10, 2008 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

It Doesn't Matter

Looking at schedules ect .. all logic points to a Jets loss being better for the Dolphins. Although I think we need to worry about who we play first, if we keep winning were fine no matter what other teams do. We play both teams one more time so either way it doesn’t matter.

by markus_13 on Nov 10, 2008 2:06 AM EST reply actions

Well the big problem is that we have already lost to the Jets

If we lose to the Jets again, I believe that we would have to have a better record than the Jets and I just see that being alot easier to do if they lose to the Pats….

by cbdolphin on Nov 10, 2008 2:17 AM EST up reply actions

ideally, we'd sweep the pats and bills and split the jets...that would put us in the best position for post-season.

Bill, Patriot or Jet on my fantasy team. And I start Ricky, Camarillo and Ginn every week.

i start Ronnie every week and Ginn the past two. i also had Carpenter this week, and he disspointed.

its better for the team when we are scoring TD’s instead of kicking FG’s

6-3 and in the hunt for

1 of 4 play-off positions. League has 12 participants. I start Cutler at QB and have Matt Ryan as my back up. I have been carried by Adrian Petersen. Also of big help are switching between Carolina’s and Minnisota’s defense. Aikers has really been a factor at kicker. I have Bush but he has been out. I am on the ESPN league. I am the commissioner and it is great because I always get to post Dolphin photos on our main page.
Great fun and a great way to get involved in the WHOLE league. This site has also been a HUGE pick-me-up supporting my Dolphin obsession.

Looks like everyone is counting out the bills

I prob am most afraid of the Jets at this point but we shouldnt disregard the Bills. Yes, they have been at a skid but they have shown when they get hot, they are tough to beat. Also, even though we have a win under our belt, our next game with them is in Toronto. I have already gone ahead and marked a loss that week.

Let this season BE GINN!

Bills are out of it

look at their schedule. they are goign to finish 8-8

The game in Torornto is on a Dome

why do you put an L on us?
BTW! RW play in that state, so there will be a lot of Dolphans over there. ; )

Pats All the way

Cause we, lost to the Jets one reason. And we beat the Pats already and we get them after next week’s game. and overall I think we match up better vs the Pats.

I heard the game will be played in a dome so the phins luck out!

fins are going to win that game

i think their will be a large dolphin contingency there. we are popular on a international level.

Ehh

I think Toronto is more home field for the Bills then Buffalo would be. I hear their fanbase up there is so huge that they are thinking of moving the team.

Let this season BE GINN!

that would be a sad day for the NFL

as much as I dislike the Bills, they should stay in Buffalo. Having a team in Canada would really bite and it should never happen

Bills in Toronto comments..

Firstly, I’m from Toronto and going to the Dec 7th game here in the Skydome.. It really is a huge benefit to us that we are NOT going to Buffalo in the December cold, as we usually lay a stinker in “The Ralph”. The Bills fan are pretty upset that a hated rival, home divisional game, against a warm weather team was the game to get picked for the experiment north of the border.. great for us..bad for them.. being in a dome is a huge bonus for us and believe it or not..we’ll have a good number of fans at the game to even things out a bit.

As for the team moving…. I WOULD LOVE to have a franchise up here in Toronto…but I agree that is definitely should NOT be the BILLS.. It would be fair ..or right to take that team away from Buffalo..I actually kind of upset that the Miami game is up here (except for the reason I stated above)…I love going to Buffalo for games. They have something special there (except for the team, of course! hahaha) but it’s a good place to see a game and party and have a team.

As for the experiment of them coming to Canada..it’s unfortunate but due to the current market economics of the Bills franchise, it was one of few options to pursue, to at least keep the team there a few years… I truly do believe that the Bills will likely leave Buffalo one day (and possibly in the near future)… but not to Toronto

As much as I want a team here in T.O….i’m still a realist and think it will never happen or that it’s a lonnnnnng way away..even with all these Bills games coming up here.. The simple economics of the NFL just don’t fit outside the U.S. (for now) due to the t.v. network contracts/rights.. too much money to be lost there..and thats the main reason Toronto or any city outside of the U.S. wont get a team for a long time to come…

by dolphinsfan4life on Nov 12, 2008 12:11 AM EST up reply actions

quick correction

it WOULDN’T be fair or right to take the team away from Buffalo

by dolphinsfan4life on Nov 12, 2008 12:14 AM EST up reply actions

nice write up and opinion man

I’d just like to see the NFL stay the way it is now. To me, they have the right amount of teams, in the right areas. Things change thats for sure, but when they start moving teams, I just don’t like it.

Rooting for the Pats is

dangerous……those guys have won the division, what 5-6 yrs in a row? If they get in first place all alone getting them out of there is going to be tough……They’re playing some pretty good football right now……Cassel is gaining confidence and they have a new RB who is a beast……I think I will root for the Jets and then hope they lose next week to Tenn. The Pats need another lose in the Division……We will have a tough time beating those guys in two weeks…….they will have 10 days to prepare and Belicheat is still pissed he was outcoached……..We will have another shot at the Jets at the end of the season not to mention They are the JETS lol…..they will find a way to lose to keep themselves out of the playoffs…….

by jvw on Nov 10, 2008 1:42 PM EST reply actions

Root for the Pats as painful

as it will be. The division title seems like it will go to a tie-breaker. Assuming everything lines up, if the Pats win and then we beat the Pats the next week-we will have the best divisional record at 3-1 with the Jets and Pats at 2-2.

They just signed Ty Law today to help a already good secondary……
