Get Deangelo Hall !!!!! NOW !!!!!
Is there any way the Phins can afford to get this guy? I have no idea, but I do know that our corners are not the best out there and obviously this guy is one of the premier corners in the league....... Here is the press release: "Angered by the Oakland Raiders' 2-6 start, team owner Al Davis asked his front office staff to explore the possibility of releasing several players, including cornerback DeAngelo Hall, according to multiple sources. Hall The Raiders are expected to release Hall on Wednesday, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith." I doubt that we could afford him but I'm not sure where our cap is... One last thought. How come teams like Dallas can afford to get 3 or 4 big names and still stay under the cap??? I say we get him.... Any thoughts or comments??

no the raiders suck
“we’ll just draft one next year” — that will cost us a draft pick, plus it will take time to develop a draft pick. Hall is ready right now.
look the raiders suck. players go there to die. they ruin everyone. look what happened to Randy Moss while he was there. people thought he was washed up too. how did that work out for the Pats last year. Oh, and the Jets, they thought Penny was washed up too. Ooops.
i know hall has had some attitude issues, but under the right regime and the right team atmosphere, he can thrive.
Dolphinator has it right. Get him right now.

Hall is overrated
I said it in the other thread, and I’ll say it now. He’s not a premier corner, hell I would take Will Allen over him any day. The reason he’s a Raider is because nobody else would pay him that much. Moss went there, and after a few games completely quit on the team so he could get out. Hall was never very good there. I still have the image of TO running the most basic route in football, a Go route, and going RIGHT BY DHall without a stutter step or a move or anything, just ran by him and caught a TD. Hall never got a hand on him, never got close enough to play the ball, and never made an effort to catch him after he caught the ball. Weak ass play. He talks like he’s a good player, but I don’t see how he can help this team, especially when we have guys who are finally developing and showing some promise (JAllen, AGoodman..). Put me down for a big fat NO for DHall.

If he can keep his mouth shut
and play good football
then I say yes, he’s not any worse than some of the guys on this team and will provide good depth to our secondary.

Jason Allen has been looking promising at cornerback. So that is why we let somebody else get hall and let allen learn at the cornerback position.

And none of our CBs haven't?
Hall has more talent, speed, and upside than our current CBs, if we can coach him better and use him systematically…. not every down, then he could be a really good fit.
Oakland is the black hole of football, I’m not surprised he’s had a sub par season. Miami is on the upsurge, we could use help at that position.

You don’t pay that price unless you’re getting an every play shut down CB like Champ or Nnamdi, and he’s nowhere near those two guys in terms of talent. Sure he’s fast, but what does it mean if you can’t cover anybody or make a tackle? He’s playing on reputation right now, and it’s an undeserved one at that. Never been a fan of him, and I really hope we don’t spend that kind of money to bring him here.

I understand the money arguement
but we are in a position now to make the playoffs for the first time since 2001…
And you really want to pass that up because we didn’t have a secondary? Imagine if he were there to swat that ball from andre johnson… or in the middle of Brett Farve’s miraculous hail mary…
if we had better cover guys like Hall we’d be 6-2.
If the price is right, then I say do it.

The money isn't the overriding argument here..
the fact that he’s garbage is the problem. I’m imagining Hall 3 steps behind Johnson on that play because he got beat off the line and never relocated the WR, instead staring into the backfield lost. I imagine him on the Favre play completely out of position and not even making an attempt at the ball because other players were nearby.

exaggeration
Little Nicky 21, DHall did go to the Pro Bowl. thats gotta mean he has some skillz right. it wasn’t just all hype that got him there was it? even if he is out of position sometimes, isnt that a coaching problem. look who his coaches have been Petrino a.k.a saban2 and Lane Kiffin.

you're giving too much credit
to the Oakland raiders coaching staff…
Hall needs better coaching, better play calling, and better teammates to really get out his true potential.
Miami has that, Oakland didn’t. But he still has 3 picks and 40+ tackles.
I think he had a good serving of humble pie in Oakland. He will be happy to play for a team, without the drama, like Miami.
He’s only 24 with 5 years of NFL experience. He’s young. I like it, I think it would be a good fit, and I think it will help out turnover differential more that it will hurt our secondary.

You're just passing the blame along to somebody else
instead of Hall. “Better coaching, better play calling, and better teammates,” really? He can’t get a better CB teammate than Nnamdi Asomugha. The guy shuts the whole opposite side of the field down. I’m sorry, I just don’t think he’s that good. I’d rather let JA and AG play and see if they can keep up the level of play they’ve been at recently, and evaluate the position in the offseason. Upgrade through the draft. This regime won’t fix problems with high-priced FA’s, which is exactly what DHall is.

The Raiders are 2-6
Just because they have talent doesn’t mean they are going to be a good team…
Look at the Cowboys for more proof. Look at the Dolphins last year. We had ZT and Jason Taylor, one for sure HOF and a potential HOF, and we only won 1 game… WHY? Bad coaching. Lane Kiffin sucked, Tom Cable sucks, and Cam Cameron was a garbage HC. If you don’t call the right plays you won’t win.
We are calling the right plays and are winning with mediocre and below average CBs. Why? Good coaching.
Even with all that said he would still be worth the money because we play Oakland in a few weeks and we can pick his brain for their defensive schemes.
Then imagine how much more fired up he will be in that game just to get back at his former team for releasing him.
He’s got talent, skills, hands. He needs better play callers, better teammates, better environment.

Great
let’s pay 5mil+ this season, plus a big bonus, plus the long-term money, so we can beat a Raiders team we should destroy with the team we have now. Brilliant strategy. He’s got speed, but he’s not nearly as good a cover guy that he thinks he is, or, apparently, that you think he is.

We have more money to spend than the Cowboys
but why spend all of it (he’s not gonna come cheap) for a 3rd down nickel back? That’s bad management, and we don’t have bad management.
Here’s the issue: We have two guys who are right now playing the best football of their lives and have shown signs the last 2 weeks that they could be good CB’s. Why would you relegate them back to the bench when you’ve spent all season developing them and hoping they reached the level they’e been playing at recently? And why would you pay 10mil+ for a guy who’s been a cancer on each team he’s been on and is vastly overrated?

I know I am going to get booed
But I say take a chance, but not if we have to pay him huge. We all know our DB,s and how well they have responded to our current coaching staff and how much better they have made them. I do not by any means think he is a shut down corner and is way to hyped up for what he has done. But his potential is greater than anyone on the roster at the CB position and if they can develope him like they have with Bell, Goodman, and Allen we could have a major steal on our hands. If our coaching staff thinks they see something in him I am not going to argue, if they don’t think he is worth the cash, then I won’t argue!
Bottom line is I trust our coaching staff and will support them in what they do until I see them making continued mistakes!

yes, we had a nice Denver game. we also got picked apart by Joe Flacco.
Serioulys, by my projection (which are reasonable) we very well could be playing the jets on the last week of the season for the division title. who do you want back there defending Cotchery, Coles, etc… Andre Goodman or DeAngelo Hall. if you were goijng to bet your house on that game, who would you want?

So now all of the sudden our secondary isn't improving
just because DHall is a FA? Yesterday, they were one of the most improved units on the team, now they stink again because there’s a loudmouth big name out there…..
We’re finally getting consistently good play out Jason Allen, as you can see from the last 2 games. Andre Goodman just played the game of his life shutting down one of the best WR’s in the game. But I guess all that is now a product of everybody else playing bad, right?

One game, doesn't equal the rest of the season
Think about that.
It’s a rollercoaster.
Week 1 – Favre’s Magic Hail Mary
Week 2 – 37 year old man destroys Fins 31-unspeakable
Week 3 – An inexperienced matt cassel… what if tom brady was playing? (which is another good reason to stockpile CBs, Tom Brady is coming back next year)
Week 5 – San Diego, Good Play
Week 6 – Andre Johnson’s magical catch on 4th and 10… knock it down we win
Week 7 – Joe I. Flacco (the I stands for interception) destroys us with mediocre CBs. Didn’t throw one interception
Week 8 – Good play
Week 9 – Cutler slumping, and good cb play.
The weeks we lost were because of bad CB/secondary play that could have one us 2 games, maybe 3 if Joe ‘Interception’ Flacco didn’t destroy us.
Up and down… up and down…
Erratic. He’ll add depth, turnover potential. He’s solid, just needs coaching.

i think you're missing the point.
We all started out believing that our secondary sucked, but had potential. At the beginning of the season, we all pretty much agreed that Will Allen could be a pro bowler, but had not yet put it together. Goodman was, well GOOD two years ago. J. Allen… what can I say, I wrote a whole post about his “potential” but none of us knew if he would develop. And Bell, EVERYONE figured Bell could be great, IF he could stay healthy.
Now, have they struggled to find their nitch? Have they been shuffled a bit with Lehan in and out, rotating safetys every week (or is it “safeties?”, and Jason Allen in and out of the lineup at different positions? And have the DBs been impacted by the development and inconsistencies of the D-line? And the answer is….. (drum roll), A RESOUNDING YES!
But what I saw this past Sunday was a team starting to come together, and play with confidence and swagger. Chemistry is as critical for DBs as for O-linemen. They need to trust each other, read each other, and know where the other guy is going to be, and what he is going to do. The guys played their best game, and NOT because Cutler was off.
now you bring in Hall. what does that say to these guys right now, when they should be excited about this next game coming up, and building on what they just accomplished?
It says, “not good enough”, and “we don’t trust you”. It blows up the morale of a unit that needs some success to develop. I think the timing is all wrong.
You play these guys this year and see what you have at the end of the season. We still really don’t know the potential of the individuals when they are playing together as a team. I say, Let em play. You want to add someone into the mix, grab a development guy of a PS somewhere and let him compete for a while. Don’t bring in Mr. “piss poor attitude” to rain on everyone’s parade.

a big roll of the dice
His salary for 2008 is only $1 million; that equates to only $470,588 for a rest-of-year rental.
But there’s a catch. If Hall suffers a serious injury, that $16 million in unpaid bonus money becomes guaranteed.

He also plays in the AFC West
Cutler and Rivers alone combine for 34 TDs each.
While in the AFC East we are more run oriented at the moment.
Edwards, Cassel, and Pennington Have about 20 Tds combined.
Favre, has like 15, but the turnovers make up for that.

JUST FOR THE RECORD....
Let’s end the speculation about Hall’s play so far this year.
According to data compiled by STATS LLC., in his eight games in Oakland, Hall was beaten 40 times for 552 yards on 66 passes thrown his way.
He gave up more yards than any defender this season and was tied for third worst in catches allowed.

I still think they should bring him in and talk to him. Parcells has a way of making
big mouth players either put up or shut up. I just think this is a way to improve the
backfield. I like the way these young guys are coming along, If he can’t fit in according
to our coaches then I go with what they say.
I just think you throw a veteran in your backfield he just might make our DB’s better !

why are you trying to end a football debate?
I think it’s actually a good argument on both sides.. DHall is a polarizing player because he has tremendous potential along with an eehhh personality, but his play doesn’t always match his hype… Similar to TO, but I don’t think he’s as a good a player as TO. Good middle of the week debate..
