I hope this ends all the "suspend Porter" talk. Joey Porter apologized to Tony Sparano and to the entire team on Monday at a team meeting. Jason Ferguson said the incident his behind them now and are focused on the Rams.

Good enough for me - as long as Sparano made it clear to Joey that he won't tolerate any more of those antics.

I also say he should not start

next week and then put it behind us. As a leader of this young team Joey has to be better than that.

I could live with that

Sit him out of St. Louis’s first 2 possessions. That would send a message – especially with Porter still chasing Strahan’s sack record, though he needs 8 sacks in 5 games to tie it (which is going to be tough).

GOOD enough for me too!!

He needed to do it and he did it. Now, lets move on. BTW, what he did was agains the panties. Anyway they did the last td just to eff us, so i was, kind of on JPorter side until he disrespected the coach. Now is all over and we can move on!!

I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

Defy and get a Bye....

I love Joey’s intensity…actually love everything he has done this year..yes..even kicking the ball off the tee and running his mouth..BUT…The real truth is we are being somewhat selfish and wanting to win. Joey passed the “breaking the rule” phase and went straight into Disrespect when defied Sparano’s authority. As much as I would just like to forget it happened..the bottom line is… New Coach….New Direction..No player is above the coach.
A one game suspension and a fine and an apology would cover it for me….A statement has to be made as to how “unacceptable” that kind of behavior is. Defy the Coach and get a Bye week without pay……Just my opinion…stop this shit before it starts.

Suspending him hurts the whole team

people are starting to figure out suspensions hurt 52 other guys when the player is a game changer.

what ever happened to go ol fashion wind sprints till u puke lol. a player on my high school baseball team once threw a baseball out our bus and hit a dude in the back of the head…we ran from 4pm-11pm. till all of us puked and told who did it. i think i lost 40lbs that day…that was worse than a game suspension

exactly

you hit him either in the pocket, or on the practice field. Benching him does nothing but hurt his team and take away a game check. You can do that without hurting your chances for a victory.

thank you nicky!

I think this is a media driving bullshit fest….stupid people throwing shit at the walls and hoping it sticks.

This says nothing about Sparano…if u think it does ur mistaken. Here is real life…Joey comes in the office…Sparano says somethng to the tune of “Joey..I swear to effin God if you ever pull some of that shit again I will come down upon you so hard ur mamma feels it”…“I dont wanan fine u…i know money aint shit to you”..Joey just says “yes sir”…says im sorry like 50 times…thank you 53 times…then he says “now go tell ur team ur sorry u let them down as there leader when shit got outta hand”..he goes in..says im sorry….and by the end of the apology they are actually closer than before shit hit the fan..thats how brothers work…u fight. u do stupid shit. there are allot of exit ramps between “u did a stupid thing”..and “ur not playing for this many games”….suspensions are starting to mean nothing cuz they are so all of the place.

bottom line is

its done………Sparano did what he thought was best for the team. I’ll stand by that. If it happens again, and I really doubt it will……then we can re hash all of this.

LOL

If joey doesn’t break the single season sack record with him behind center I would be surprised.

I agree......

But, the punishment has to fit the crime……No suspension, no holding him out of opening series. It was a meltdown at the end of a lost game. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like him not listening to the coach…..but hell……..it happened , it’s over and now they need to focus on the rams.

Sparano Wins

1-0 to Sparano, I think Porter knows who is in charge now, I’m certain we won’t have a repeat performance.

by Paul_Dixon on Nov 25, 2008 5:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I believe Sparano has the respect of everyone in the locker room

and Porter is no exception. I’m sure the apology contained the words “heat of the moment” and “frustration” because that’s what the circumstances were. Porter is a fiery guy, going against a hated rival, in a heated game, and we were losing. I can forgive him. What he did was wrong, but it wasn’t TO-type disrespect, or Pacman, or Ocho Cinco..

I thought he should have been suspended 1 game

so what if it hurts the team next game. undermining the coaches authority might hurt even more down the line. if he was suspended and we lost he’d have to look his teammates in the eye and explain to them how his stupidity was worth that.

a suspension would alienate him from the coach

Ideally its the thing that should be done, but in reality it just causes friction

When I saw the first highlight during the Jets game, the commentators didn’t even know who or what the coaches were yelling at. I’m not sure that Joey even realized it at first, before his replacement approached him. In short, I really don’t think there was any intention to overtly defy the coach. I think Sparano showed how big of a man he is by not letting the press and some “out of control” bloggers and fans spin this thing into something it’s not. I also think he showed the players that no, no one is above the team but if you play hard, FOR THE TEAM, I’ll cut you some slack – once. That’s a cool thing. Let’s settle down and try to take at least 3 of the next 5.

Both good points

that I don’t think anybody had thought of, at least nobody here.
