Dan Carpenter
I was looking at Dan Carpenter's stats and considering him as a fantasy plug and play this week with the 'phins taking on STL, a very poor defense.
The thing that bugs me is that Carpenter has tried very few FG's relative to the number of PAT's he has made. I am trying to understand why this is. Here are a few options, please indicate which one or several you think is right:
1) Redzone efficiency
2) Kicker has a weak leg so the team tends to go for it or punt instead of try 45-55 yard FG's
3) The team goes for it on 4th a lot, even when it would be a short kick.
The first option is a lot less sustainable, so I would play Carpenter if that was the case. Not that I want to take away from the Dolphins that they have played well in the redzone, but they are getting touchdowns vs. fieldgoals at a ridiculuous 2:1 clip. The latter two options would lead me to avoid playing Carpenter, as those are things that are not likely to change.
Thanks!

The team scored 4 TDs last week
proving an amazing efficiency at the red zone, however in the game against Oakland we had the 52-53 yd game winning field goal on 4th&5 and Sparano decided to go for it instead of kicking. You do the math
Yeah
We know we have a FG kicker
But if you’re 4th and inches or a couple of yards why not go for it?

4th and 5.....
That’s not 4th and inches…that’s actually a great distance on 4th down. That is a desperate amount of yardage….If we didn’t make that completion on 4th down… that game would have taken a different turn. I think there are many reasons regarding the"Montana Man" stats… In some ways we have an Old School conservative coach…When we punted with 4th and a few Millimeters in the Texas game…I didn’t care for that…That’s Too Conservative. ..2nd..We are pretty efficient in the red zone. 3rd Dan is very solid under 40….maybe he is not so solid in practice over 50? We don’t see that part. But Mainly I think it comes down to conservatism-Faith in Defense-and the fact that it is so unforgiving when you miss a long field goal..you are guaranteeing the opposition great Field Position.
Just my take…:)

Yeah I know
I said 4th and inches or a couple of yards?
In Dolphins football, 4 and 5 is fourth and inches because they go so much on 4th
because they are the Dolphins!!!!
It has been working out lately. That Houston game was the wakeup.
I am talking stupid sorry no sleep

DC$ may not be totally comfortable kicking from 50+ just yet
not sure of his college stats, haven’t looked them up yet. But he’s solid from about 45 in. If it’s 4th and 5 and you feel like you have a play that can more than likely get that yardage, you go for it. Don’t put all the pressure on a rookie kicker, put it on your veteran QB. He’s growing into a clutch kicker, the long distance kicks in big spots don’t just all the sudden happen. You have to get comfortable with that pressure.
