Dolphins add special teamer

The Dolphins claimed LB Eric Walden off of waivers from the Chiefs. Walden has 10 special teams tackles in 9 games this year for Kansas City. He was a 6th round pick of the Cowboys this year and was claimed off waivers by the Chiefs on August 31.

LB Rob Ninkovich was waived to make room for Walden.

John Bonamego

The Dolphins continue to look for the right mix on special teams with little success. At what point does the coach take the blame?

always gotta be THAT guy.

I can't recall the exact quote,

but Sparano did admit he has to assume part of the blame in one of his post-game interviews, and underlined his intention to improve.

It not so much the scheme

It’s poor tackling, lately anyways. If I am the ST coach I wouldnt be to comfortable right now.

Talent

So then how are we doing it on offense and defense? Special teams were one of the biggest focuses during the off season. The coach is the common denominator for the coverage team. At what point are you not willing to give him a break?

DUDE

the offense is better because we got CP10. Without him we would be playing a rookie and looking half as good.

the defense has talent.

it all comes down to players playing….coaching on special teamsonly goes so far. these guys are missing tackles

not missing tackles

To me many big plays have not been missed tackles when I watch the games or replay it. take for example the big punt return last week … London overran the play and the other gunner took a poor angle. Missed tackles do occur, but the lines that are taken are poor, the gaps are not filled, etc. I’ll admit that sometimes contact is made but the tackles are not made, but during the big ones we’ve given up the return man is typically untouched. Ultimately, the players are responsible for their lines and gaps, but coaching has to shoulder a lot of the blame too for not keeping them more disciplined. Remember, most of these guys are reserves who have one job to do … make a special play on special teams.

have to agre with this

and don’t forgot to add that fileds has likely the worst hang time in the NFL… i miss that dang hang time clock… and since ever second is like 6-10 yards further down the field the coverage gets, fields low liners pretty much kill the coverage.

i’d also add that the ST woes are a harbinger of the lack of depth on the team right now. once you get past the starters there aren’t very many players capable of making plays.

by W NY Fins Fan on Nov 21, 2008 12:50 AM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

right on the money

with the hang time. He kicks it far but it doesn’t stay in the air long.

DUDE

I did not say fire the man, I am just posing the question. The players are held accountable, at what point does the coach accept some responsibility?

Why did KC waive him?

sounds like bill made a phone call and got a favor. We need help on ST and a team with two wins is so stocked with talent they can waive one of there top ST’ers. I’ll take it…….This is why I love this FO not only do they have contacts all over the league but they know they have a weak spot and they are not waiting until next yr to fix it. When Jeff said he is in his office turning over rocks looking for players…..he was dead serious……..When the players see this they are reminded that these guys are trying to win NOW……..why wait unitl next yr. lets win this thing this yr………I love it!!!!! Lets go Kick NE ASS!!!!

by jvw on Nov 20, 2008 3:13 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

dont know

and dont care why they waived him, he was 2nd on their team in ST tackles and we have needed someone productive in the wedge buster position all year, one of our hardest spots to fill

by DolPhanDave on Nov 20, 2008 3:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So WELCOME then!

Everybody has to agree that that’s something that we nned in ST, a TACKLER ; )

I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

by Aleta on Nov 20, 2008 3:43 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

There is no apparent reason why we waived him

I for one thought he was young & budding talent but just like that he was given the axe. He made some great hits on special teams and with our depleted LB corps I thought surely there’d be room for him. He had a penalty against New Orleans last week and Herm with all of his infinite wisdom decided it was time for him to go. I’m watching him closely to see if this was another blundered scouting project on behalf of Chiefs coaching staff. But know that you guys picked up somebody talented!

Just a note, in time we'll have to cross this bridge

Chief fans are pretty damn cool. I live in the area. And most are football smart and well mannered. Just an fyi.

I'm about 4-5 hours

from KC, so there are tons of Chiefs fans around here. But what made me think they were cool was, when I went to my first NFL game, Dolphins at Chiefs. The Chiefs won 42-7, and wearing Dolphin colors, I stuck out like a sore thumb. They razzed me a little, but mostly said funny things, like “at least we serve beer here and the bbq is good”. Most I sat around shook hands after the game. That kind of stuff.

I hoping like hell to pull off a little trip there this year for the Dolphin game. It’ll be in December, and the Chiefs aren’t doing well, that makes getting good tickets a little easier. We’ll see……………….

Call it the sparano shuffle

I cannot remember one of our coaches shuffling player on and off the practice squad more than Sparano. Scary polace to be huh? Sparano: Welcome to the Miami Dolphin practice squad! You’ll be here until you die or we find someone better!

Again the trifecta has found another Cowboy to help our team. This is a good thing because atleast they have some experience with these guys.
New kid is a model LB at 6.2 and 245 pounds whos only 23. Obviously just for special teams.

Something has got to give........

I’m sure the coaching is in their ass about their shitty play. Can’t cut it , then hit the bricks. I’m sure there are plenty of unemployed special team types just begging for an oppurtunity, guys that are hungry, with a fire in their belly!!!! GUYS THAT WOULD LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN TO BE A DOLPHIN AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!

how do you think Cobbs got so good? He busted his ass, put in the work, made the plays..etc etc etc.
There are others like that out there, or still on the team yet chomping at the bit to get “their day”.

don't get too worked up

about these guys. just remember that this is an internet message board and it’s pretty much meaningles in the grand scheme of things (except cam use to read these boards so there is always a ray of hope, but i’d wager a LARGE bundle that sparano isn’t).

So you may not like what others say about you (or heck me for that matter) but you have just as much of a right to post your half baked ideas here as the rest of us, dim wits. just have fun baby and don’t ever worry one second about what someone says around here.
