Dolphins heavily represented in Pro Bowl voting

Last year, the Dolphins were 1-15 and had just one pro-bowl player - Jason Taylor.

But 2008 has been different.  Taylor is no longer a Dolphin.  And the Dolphins are 6-4 through 10 games.  And fans across the country have taken notice - as three Dolphins lead their respective position in the pro-bowl voting.

Ronnie Brown, Jake Long, and Joey Porter are all currently first in voting for RB, OT, and OLB respectively.  And that's not all.  Yeremiah Bell is 5th in the AFC in voting at strong safety.  And Patrick Cobbs is in 3rd as a "special teamer" - just 5,000 votes back of first place.

What does this mean?  It means that we all need to make sure we do our part for our beloved Fins and vote.  You can do so right here.  Though fan voting is only one-third of the formula for players to make the Pro-Bowl, we should still do what we can to show our appreciation for the job this team has done in 2008.

Thats great!

I’ve been trying to vote daily since Rzayo had a post on this when they first opened the polls. Brown, Long and Porter I feel are going to Hawaii, it would be nice to see others as well.

It'll be nice to see those guys

Playing in nice, warm, humid weather for a change…wait….nevermind

It’ll be nice to see our guys back down there playing. Remember the days when there were Dolphins helmets all over the place? Ahhh….good times….

It was..

Remember Ricky getting his? That (I think) was the last time we had an offensive player in the hula hula bowl. since then its been mostly defense.

Very close on some, AFC East votes..

Here are the position-by-position results and how AFC East players rank within the conference:

Quarterback
1. Brett Favre, Jets (402,514)
Comment: He has almost 94,000 more votes than second-place Jay Cutler.

Running back
1. Ronnie Brown, Dolphins (284,794)
4. Marshawn Lynch, Bills (154,637)
Comment: The Wildcat has helped propel Brown to prominence, but he’s deserving without gadgets.

Fullback
3. Tony Richardson, Jets (70,237)
Comment: LeRon McClain of the Ravens is first with about 25,000 more votes.

Wide receiver
4. Randy Moss, Patriots (188,138)
Comment: Strictly on reputation. Jets receivers Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are having seasons every bit as good.

Tight end
None.
Comment: That’s understandable, given the number of play-makers at this position in the conference.

Center
3. Nick Mangold, Jets (94,063)
Comment: Surprising not to see Pro Bowler Dan Koppen among the top five.

Guard
1. Alan Faneca, Jets (165,610)
4. Derrick Dockery, Bills (61,449)
Comment: Perennial Pro Bowler drawing votes from two fan bases. Pro Bowler Logan Mankins conspicuously missing.

Tackle
1. Jake Long, Dolphins (108,943)
2. D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Jets (95,675)
3. Matt Light, Patriots (80,270)
Comment: Nice representation for the AFC East. Fittingly, the only one missing is Pro Bowler Jason Peters, who unsuccessfully held out for a new contract and has struggled.

Defensive end
None.
Comment: No Richard Seymour?

Defensive tackle
3. Marcus Stroud, Bills (80,981)
4. Kris Jenkins, Jets (74,343)
Comment: Jenkins deserves a higher ranking, but you can’t argue with Albert Haynesworth being first with 206,925 votes.

Outside linebacker
1. Joey Porter, Dolphins (151,463)
Comment: He’s leading the NFL with 13.5 sacks.

Inside linebacker
4. Tedy Bruschi, Patriots (49,780)
Comment: That rookie Jerod Mayo isn’t ahead of Bruschi ought to be a crime.

Cornerback
None.
Comment: Darrelle Revis is being victimized by some big names ahead of him, but the coaches and players will notice.

Strong safety
4. Donte Whitner, Bills (19,686)
5. Yeremiah Bell, Dolphins (16,721)
Comment: Troy Polamalu is untouchable with 178,764 votes.

Free safety
4. Kerry Rhodes, Jets (33,900)
Comment: Ed Reed is way out in front with 133,666 votes.

Kicker
None.
Comment: Strange. Stephen Gostkowski leads the AFC in scoring with 91 points. Jay Feely has made several big kicks, but Mike Nugent represents the Jets on the ballot.

Punter
4. Brian Moorman, Bills (37,407)
Comment: It’s close at a position that generates few votes.

Kick returner
4. Leon Washington, Jets (43,202)
5. Roscoe Parrish, Bills (34,913)
Comment: Darren Sproles has almost twice as many votes as Washington.

Special teamer
2. Larry Izzo, Patriots (43,462)
3. Patrick Cobbs, Dolphins (41,895)
Comment: Balloting is tight. Izzo is only about 3,500 votes behind the Steelers’ Anthony Madison.

This was worthy of a fan post. Great work.

Brett Favre is the leading vote getter among QB's in the AFC?

Really? Ahead of Peyton? That makes sense?

No it doesn't make sense

But he’s Brett Favre. When does anything he does or is involved in make sense?

The retirement made sense

then he made it confusing..

I hope Ronnie, Jake and Joey make it in

Cobbs would be a nice bonus.
