Are the Dolphins that much better?

Let me start by saying that I am not trying to throw a wet blanket on this year's success, just wondering. Are the Dolphins really that much better than last year? The NFL seems to have no great teams this year. The teams that were suppose to be great have flaws.  The Patriots numerious injuries, Peyton Manning's knee, Chargers Shawn Merriman, Rothlesberger etc.

The Dolphins lost several close games last year with many key injuries and the Chambers trade. Just wondering how much better is this years team?

voted much better

Its a whole new team from head to tail in a way. I think one of the biggest differences has to do with the front office and the coaching staff. Thats the main reason I feel this team is 5-4. The close wins this year, might have been losses last year, if we had the same Coach and staff.

I just see that this Coaching staff is getting so much more out of the players they have as compared to last year, when they didn’t, and couldn’t get the most out of what they had with bad decisions on and off the field.

Last years team, was basically beaten mentally by now. If this team was 0-9, instead of 5-4, I really believe they would still be trying their hearts out knowing good things are on the way. We have direction this year, not a needle-less compass like last year.

agreed.

but the biggest two single stats you can look at that tell HOW much better… penalties and turnover ratio.

Of ALL of the questions; talent, coaching, strength of schedule… ALL of the things you would want to try to compare, just the discipline alone shows the difference between this year’s Dolphins and last year’s.
Our turnover ratio is good, not so much because our D is getting takeaways, but because our O is playing smarter. And not only are our penalties down from last year, they are one of the fewest in the league, so we are getting less momentum killers.

IMO, those are the two most objective things you can compare that show just how much better this team is today than last year. Smart and disciplined.

No Zack, No Taylor, No alot of the high priced roster.
We are better. Last year we lost a bunch by 3 points and this year? Penny takes a knee in a few games. man, i’m sleepy..

we are so much better than last yr. anyone who knows football can see that. even if we just had the same chumps…took out lemon and addd cp10…wed be better.

I think it's a valid question

we actually had talent last year…. maybe not playoff talent, but certainly better than 1-15. The biggest problem was with the coaching staff. I agree with you about the QB position. green wasn’t great, but when he went down, so did our chances.

Bill and Jeff did a great job solidfying the lines, but I think the biggest difference is in the coaching and discipline instilled in the team.
IMO

I never said they were not better

The question was how much better. The point of the post, lost on you, was that many of last years teams are not as good this year. 6-4 would be 4 games behind last years Patriots.
