SB Nation Power Rankings: Week 6

since we have every team covered here at SB Nation, we've decided to put together weekly power rankings - mainly to provide some more food for thought and debate.  Below are the results of our voting for this week, with the average rank of each team in parenthesis:

1. Giants (1) 9. Patriots (10.67) 17. Chargers (17.5) 25. Browns (25.5)
2. Titans (2.5) 10. Bears (11.08) 18. Jaguars (17.91) 26. Raiders (26)
3. Cowboys (3.58) 11. Eagles (12.67) 19. Packers (18) 27. Seahawks (26.67)
4. Redskins (4.58) 12. Bucs (12.83) 20. Falcons (18.08) 28. Texans (27.83)
5. Steelers (5.25) 13. Colts (13.33) 21. Dolphins (19) 29. Chiefs (29.08)
6. Panthers (7.25) 14. Cardinals (13.5) 22. Saints (19.91) 30. Bengals (29.5)
7. Bills (8.5) 15. Ravens (15) 23. Vikings (20.75) 31. Rams (31.33)
8. Broncos (9.83) 16. Jets (17.16) 24. 49ers (23.16( 32. Lions (31.58)

Alright.  So the Dolphins are ranked 21st.  What does that mean?  It means opposing teams' fans don't respect this team like us Dolphin think they should.  But also notice that the Dolphins are part of the most closely bunched group in the rankings - the teams from 16 to 21 are separated by less than 2 in average rank.

To just give you an idea as to how I voted, I had the top 6 the same way they are above.  I had the Dolphins 17th, which wasn't even the highest ranking among those who voted.  One blogger had Miami at 16.  But another also had the Dolphins down at 23.  So it was a mixed bag.

What do you guys think about these rankings?

The Titan better than Washington?

Maybe is my, but winning AT DALLAS and AT PHILLY is more than enough for me.

I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

i DON’T GET IT. It’s good to explain 0 L, but not 0 W?

i'd at least hope we'd be higher than the Falcons

but this is only 6 weeks in now, by midseason we’ll be sitting pretty in the top 15 I’d think.

G-Men doin big things this year. I can get on board with the ultimate spoilers haha

How about....

right above two teams – Saints and Vikings – that some people thought were Super Bowl bound. And they still might be!

by JGray on Oct 9, 2008 4:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The Colts are way too high.

It’s amazing how many good teams there are this year.

by joel311 on Oct 9, 2008 4:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

haha...

I was just thinking it’s amazing how few good teams there are… I mean honestly take one of the teams in the mid-low ’20s and is there any team that you think they could not beat? I could see the 49ers beating the Giants, or the Seahawks beating the Redskins, or the Raiders beating the Titans…

by thatzakkid on Oct 9, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I Think the pats

are to high. I mean who have they beaten? K.C., the Jets and San Fran. The chiefs had them on the ropes but couldn’t finish. Even though they only have one loss I put them at 12 in front of the Colts. I like were we are, Our team is too young right now, in my opinion, to handle success by the media and other Teams. I like the no respect line or we have to earn respect line that Von, Ferg, Chad, Joey, Richy and Ronnie are talking about. After putting to together 3-4 wins in a row that’s were coach will have to keep them level headed which i’m sure he will. I like the make up of our TEAM. It is truly a TEAM. This is a big test for us this week……IMO this is the biggest game so far this year…………

I agree with the top 6

but the Bills @ 7th and the Pats @ 9th, Bullcrap. The Bills have only won against teams with losing records and the only team the Pats beat that were any good was the stinky Jets.

I like it.....

Its just so nice to not have to see us at the bottom of any poll or stat anymore……I’m just enjoying the moment.

Definitely alot better than

being the laughing stock of the NFL. It used to suck last year because I wore Dolphins hat all the time, and I would always catch shit about it (even from total strangers). Id always have to reply " yeah, I know theyre suckin out right now but theyre gonna get better, Im in it better or for worse". Well looks like better is coming, and Im still wearing my Phins hat.

I would put us around 18 though

A few things really stand out to us...

- Washington gets little credit for its accomplishments. We’re not sure if it’s that they were picked to be last in the very tough NFC East, or that they don’t have any lovable stars, but the public does not seem to like this team much. Our system has them rated #1.

- Staying in the NFC East, we really think Dallas is overrated. They have the talent no doubt, but their production on the field does not live up to the hype, and unless they fix some of their fundamentals it will catch up to them. We have them ranked #12 right now.

- Another highly overrated team at the moment is Indianapolis. Much like Dallas they have plenty of talent and name recognition, but their performance this year has been quite poor. We try not to speculate on what a team “might do” or “could do” and instead focus on what a team has actually done. Right now Indianapolis has done enough to be ranked #20.

- A team that has done some solid work on the field this year, but is not receiving any real recognition for it, is your Miami Dolphins. Our system sees them as a balanced team with some relatively solid fundamentals. If you washed away everyone’s memories of last year’s 1-15 team and just showed them the stats on this year’s team, we’re confident that they would be in the top half of almost everyone’s ranking. Currently our system ranks Miami at #9.

Every game that goes by, more film is produced on the Wild Cat formation....

by the time Miami meats Denver, they won’t even both running it anymore. ;-)
