Ask Baltimore Beatdown - Ravens Blogger

Hey Dolphins fans! Looking forward to my first road trip to a Ravens away game as I'm coming down to Miami to visit my cousin and see my Ravens take on your Dolphins this weekend. It must be strange to see your team as the favorite, as the Ravens have laid three stinkers in a row while your Dolphins have beaten both of last year's AFC Championship Game teams and we seconds away from three in a row before letting Houston off of the hook. Feel free to post any questions you may have and I'll return to respond from a Ravens perspective. Feel free to visit my blog (www.BaltimoreBeatdown.com) to post your comments as well. Thanks!

I know your Defense is pretty damn good

so our Offense against your D will be an instense matchup, but do you think that your Offense can move the ball against our D? How Does Joe Flacco handle pressure??

by cbdolphin on Oct 15, 2008 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

Whacko for Flacco

are the signs that are all over Ravens Stadium on game day. Even with his mediocre stats of one TD pass with seven interceptions, he still looks like he keeps his cool out there. Surprising for a Div. I-AA QB. Whether or not the Ravens can move the ball against you or any defense still remains to be seen. I doubt you’ll see any gamebreaking long passes from us. However, if we can run, which we should be able to, we can drive the ball with a mixture of sort passes in with our running game, which can be brutal if we have success behind our “Big” package, which is the 260 pound Le’Ron McClain behind the 255 pound fullback, Lorenzo Neal.

I really was impressed...

…the first two games against weaker competition, although still victories. He mixed in a couple of trick plays to go along with not handling Flacco like a baby. However, the past three have been frstrating, as it seems like he’s regressed in his handling of Flacco, playing it as conservative as our last o-coordinators, Brian Billick and Matt Cavanaugh. It’s upsetting when I can either sit in the stands or on my couch and call out the plays before they run them. I can only imagine what the defense is thinking!

I actually always thought Cam Cam was a good O-Coordinator. His head coaching foray was doomed from the start I think, he paid for other people’s sins.

Hey Rexx!

When I saw Flacco it was obvious that he had a great arm but he played mostly out of the shotgun. What do you think of him with respect to his mobility and playing more under-center as he is your long-term QB. going forward?

"If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good you did it. That's all it takes to get people to win football games for you."

Flacco in the shotgun

I too was worried when I heard that, especially from someone from Div. I-AA. Getting up under center and real close to the NFL DT’s and LB’s, who are breathing in your face and teling you that they’re going to kill you must be a little overwhelming. He’s muffed a couple of snaps under center, but former Raven Kyle Boller did that at least once/game. He’s big (6’6") and slow, but has already ran for a 38 yard TD against the Bengals and should run a little bit more rather than rolling out and throwing interceptions when he should be tucking it in and going for it.

Hey Rexx

When you heard the comments from Harbaugh regarding Cameron, did you roll your eyes and go “oh man, thats just locker room material now” or shrug it off with “Oh well, he said what he said, we have to play no matter what comes out of his mouth” ?

Also, is there a weakness on your defense that you are worried about or have a concern with?

Talk is cheap

Harbaugh may not have the experience and seems to make some pretty poor rookie decisions, as I’ve been pretty critical of him so far. However, he has the head coach BS down pat, whether it be defending his players or coaches, and deflecting comments. However, I’m not willing to give a head coach a rookie “pass” like I’m willing to do for someone like Flacco.

Defensively, our weakness is against the pass. Even Ronnie Brown, Wildcat or not, won’t be able to run against us. We haven’t given up a 100 yard rusher in over 20 games and the Dolphins won’t be any different. However, our great LB’s can’t cover the underneath slants by the TE’s or RB out of the backfield. Also, Chris McAlister is a great corner, but likes to bite on the fake to go for the big interception. Psst. Something tells me Pennington already knows this!

Hey Rexx

Being from Ohio, let’s get one thing straight, Art Modell was a dick. So, by default I hate the Ravens, even though I have no love for the Browns. It might also be the playoff loss in miami that the Ravens gave us or maybe the A-hole Ravens fans I had the displeasure sitting by………..whatever. I didn’t Cam last year and I sure don’y like him now.So, I’m rambling, but I hope we can rain on your little parade.

Nice to be a fan

of your favorite team. I am as well, but am realistic that as much as I hate other teams, there are quite a few that suck less then us! I’m coming down to Miami for my first Ravens road trip (other than the Super Bowl victory in Tampa in 2001). I’ll be the quiet one in Ravens colors. Be cool with me, feel sorry and buy me a beer to drown my sorrows and frustrations.

As far as Modell, he was a great owner for the Browns until he took the team to a city that could salvage his financial woes after Cleveland’s Mayor turned him down. He was great for the NFL and without a doubt belongs in the Hall of Fame. Too bad he’s elderly and sick and the league has a chance to do him right before he passes away. The bitter Cleveland fans and sportswriters will never let it go. Us Baltimore fans who have done so are pretty much experts at this.

You don't have to be quiet

It’s the loudmouth drunken idiots that set me off. You know the ones, the guy that wants to fight you because you cheer for the other team. You see, I spent 20 years cheering the Fins in places like Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, and Indy. I’ve taken more shit and have had to physically defend myself on more than one occassion, so you have to excuse me when my stance is somewhat rigid.

I now have the ability to travel with work and now make it a point to work in south Fla during football season, less shit and more fun.

So, good luck to you……..but, I still hope your team loses. By the way, Troy Smith was the man at Ohio State…….GO BUCKS

I agree

When an opposing team fan comes into my Ravens’ home crib, then stands, shouts and talks trash after every good play his team makes, it pisses me off and just makes me root for my team even louder. For us in Baltimore, it sucks when we play the Steelers and they have thousands of fans, acting like total assholes, all over the staium waving those ugly yellow Terrible Towels. It’s even worse when the Steelers are kicking our ass at the same time!
