Dolphins at Texans Post Game Thread

Heartbreaking loss right there.

The defense let down the offense today - especially the secondary.  But to be honest, this was a game the Dolphins had no business winning - but got some lucky breaks at times.  In the end, it wasn't enough.

One day we'll beat the Texans.  Just not on this day.

2-3....still isn't the end of the world, I guess.

Back tonight with the usual post-game wrap up post.

Lol

Arizona just returned the kick off for a touchdown…

but anyways

Secondary, Secondary, Secondary.

We came up big, but not when it mattered.

We should have won but we didn’t.

It was still a really exciting game.

If there is any good to be found in this loss...

… it’s definitely going to give Sparano to work with, motivationally at least. I think this loss will go a long way in keeping the team humble and hungry.

Can’t wait to see what DB we draft next April!

we were losing. they were winning

you don’t slide before the goal line when you’re behind. you take the TD and trust your D to keep them outta the endzone. If Ronnie slides and Carpenter misses a FG, we would be killing Ronnie for not taking the TD

I think we really just put ourselves in too many holes.

You can’t expect our D to hold strong in the Red Zone that many times. The real problem was the fact that we couldn’t stop the passing game. At all. Schaub lit us up like Warner did, but we played much much better than we did in AZ, so that’s why we had a chance to win.

Somebody has to make a play in the secondary on that last drive, we had two shoulda been picks and what should’ve been a turnover on downs. Wonder if there’s any DB’s available in a Deadline Deal

Just got home…..and ouch. Thought we might take a “w” outta this one. Not like we really deserved it though. But man…….How do you NOT have anyone in run coverage when its 4th and 2, 7 seconds left and they have nothing to lose by running it? That was a huge blunder by someone who should have seen it. I even said to my buddy at the bar before the play…..“watch the run”……

Why

do the Texans own Miami? When I see the Texans on the schedule from now on, I’ll automatically consider it a loss. They are another version of the jets. I hope that the every player on defense feels sick right now, a QB sneak? Everyone in the world knew it was coming except the 11 guys in aqua. Those guys couldn’t cover an old woman with a walker.

What really pisses me off is that every one

predicted this. Most of the pregame guys said that Miami would come back down to Earth today. To lose is one thing, to lose and have all of America know that you were going to lose is another. When the Texans run out of the tunnel, Miami becomes intimidated. . .It’s obvious. Again, this team does not have a killer instinct. We got lucky last week against San Diego and it caught up with us today.

a few observations

3 things about each phase that I noticed from today’s game that really stuck out to me:
OFFENSE:
1. Offensive play calling to me was OFFENSIVE … looked more like the first 2 games (except the Wildcat down field play). Also, look at the number of touches by Ronnie and by Ricky.
2. Ted Ginn (and his family) still CAN’T make a play
3. Offensive line play was plain old SORRY
DEFENSE:
1. Secondary is PATHETIC … and no real ball “hawks” (despite the INT’s as they had more chances that they blew)
2. Matt Roth DISAPPEARED today
3. It seemed like Joey Porter took the 3rd and 4th quarters OFF before returning for the final drive … too late in my opinion
*Not too mention just a plain old poor perfromance defensively
SPECIAL TEAMS:
1. Cover unit on Special Teams is more like SPECIAL ED. ON THE SHORT BUS WHILE WEARING A HELMUT
2. Where is this “HUGE” leg of Dan Carpenter? He barely gets the ball to the 5 most of the time
3. D. Bess DOES NOT make many defenders misson returns. Maybe he does at practice where we can’t see it, butwith how bad our cover unit is, I think my 86 year old grandmother could make our 1st defender miss

On the positive, Camirillo’s stock is rising, Pennington makes this offense work, and when playing hard Joey Porter can still bring it! At least Sparano has them competitive. I am looking forward to how they bounce back next week. i think we will see some HUNGRY defenders and more creative offensive play calling!

by bcb on Oct 12, 2008 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

Sorry to say we deserved to lose

Offense lacked creativity and Ronnie
Defense has a hole in their zone or the personal we have is unable to execute it
Special Teams let the whole team down
They came out flat but they should have learned a very valuable lesson today.
An 0-4 team that’s been close is a very dangerous opponent. Their young though and as painful as this is it is a good stepping stone for them to improve from.
And can we PLEASE PUT GINN IN ON THE KICK OFF RETURNS!!!

by ATS16 on Oct 12, 2008 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

The bottom line..

Is that this team is not good enough yet. Whether Shaub scored on that last play or not. This was an overall sorry performance. A win would have been nice, but it probably would have sugar coated a lot of the mistakes that were made today.

Miguel Cabrera who???

OK THIS ONE HURT

I agree mattie we had no business winning this game but we almost did anyways. To get in the playoffs you have to get lucky every now and then and find a way to win….I thought today was going to be the game for us…….I was happy to see the offense come from behind by driving down the field and scoring a TD, they showed great character in doing so…..the defense? I have nothing to say…….disappointed comes to mind but hopefully they learn from it and get ready for next week……We have to get back to .500, next week is a big game for us, lets lick our wounds and look to next sunday……

by jvw on Oct 12, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Final Vent

4 things are really bugging me.
1: First drive, 3 and 1, we have Ricky and Ronnie, and the Wildcat. We line up in a SHOTGUN? Easy read, pass incomplete. Punt.
2: Using the Wildcat. It seemed that they dictated to us when we had to run it. And, why not use it at all one series, them come back and run it 3 times in a row on another series? Didn’t seem like we could click with it.
3: The challenge. Everyone could see he didn’t have the first down. That one cost us a nice big ole juicy timeout.
4: The last play. It was such a run play. Nothing to lose for them, do or die. And no one within 2 yards left or right of their center for us. Result, QB draw…..TD. Game Over.

Growing pains suck. You know eventually you’ll get better, bigger and taller….but right now, they just plain ’ole suck!

Houston was genious to let us score the TD at the end.
Ronnie brown should have sat down at the 1 yard line like Westbrook did last year. make Houston called 2 TOs, we coulda run 1:20 off the clock and would have kiked a FG w/ less than 25 seconds left.

Don't be dumb

They would’ve gladly given up a FG in place of a TD. Because then all they have to do is kick a FG to win. This ain’t Playstation bro, you don’t just let a team run a TD so you can get the ball back. Especially with T.O’s. They take all three TO’s, we kick a FG with about 1:20 left, and HOU is in better shape than we left them in. The best case scenario is we burn all three of their timeouts, and THEN get a TD, but that’s not a guarantee. RZ said it, you take the points.

Enough about the Westbrook play, Philly was winning and he had just picked up a first down on that play. By him falling down, they kneeled down on the next play and won instead of kicking it back to whoever it was they played. It’s only been a few hours, and I’m already tired of hearing about how Ronnie made the wrong decision by making Mario Williams look stupid and scoring a TD. Please. Quit being so stupid and just realize that we put our D in position to win, and they failed. End of story.

they only had 2 time outs. they called one on the play before that. There was 1:45 on the clock, so we could have run 40 seconds on both 3rd and 4th downs befoer kicking, they woulda been left w lesss than 25 seconds left on teh clock to drive the field and kick a FG. Thats MUCH harder to do than get a TD with 1:40 on the clock and 2 TOs.

I guess the last two weeks were a tease. Either way, I’m F’n mad. I don’t want to hear anymore of the wildcat shit because we need a solid defense. Goodman, Lehan, Hill. . .are all third stringers anywhere else in the NFL. I read the “overreacting” post by badjah and I agree, we should keep it in perspective, we still suck. the texans fans are just happy they got their first win, and to be honest, they should be proud. they saw how good matt schaub can be when they need a good drive at the end of the game to win.

I don't know about that

didn’t he almost throw 2 int. on that last drive? I see now why they’re calling for Sage.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!

What the hell do you mean the Dolphins had no business winning this game? What kind of shit is that? Are you a Texans fan? I mean WTF. We were playing in Houston not Texas, its not like the Phins were palign a team that was 3-1, or hell 2-2 for that matter. But instead a winless Texans team. And even though they gave Indy hell last week, that because they have no Bob Sanders to stop the run. The secondary slipped up. They should have double teamed Andre more. I mean Andre is a beast, he makes any QB look good, no matter who it is. The maybe they sould have put a bit more pressure on the Matt Schaub, but the secondary should have done their job, especially with as much time as left on the clock in the 4th. its a lesson learned. We shut down Slaton, and that goes to show you why we have a defense that is ranked in the top 10 in the NFL against the run. Our secondary should get more reps. The offense did a hell of a job. Chad did his thing and Ronnie was being Ronnie, a straight monster. And even we took a loss today this squad is ten if not a million times better . I will still be wering my Dolphins attire tomorrow to work. Miami Dolphins #1

Listen, bro:

The Dolphins had no business to win that game. The defense played like garbage. We just lucked out and picked off 2 passes – one off a tip – and lucked out that Andre Johnson wasn’t holding onto the ball tightly enough and let Will Allen poke it free. Oh – and we can’t forget Eugene Wilson’s fumble. If he’s smart and just falls to the ground after intercepting Pennington, then the end result isn’t as close as it was.

This was one of those games where if the Dolphins won by knocking down that 4th and 10 pass, we’d say the Fins won a game that they should have lost. It would have been more that the Texans lost it – not that the Dolphins won it. You don’t surrender 485 yards and deserve to win. Period.

Got a problem with that? Does that make me less of a fan? If you think so, then you’re wrong. I’m just a realist and don’t look at things with Dolphin-colored glasses.

Remember when I said last week that we shouldn’t mention the “P” word yet? It’s because this team is a .500 team at best – not a playoff team. And today showed why.

Matty I, you are one...

of the people that said" You will never play perfect ALL the time, but GREAT team know who to win anyhow"
I’m not saying that we are GREAT but this was a game that we could build on from a bad win. Don’t send us to the tubs because a bad game, cause i have seen a lot of game won badly, but that is not worse than lossing!! Atleast on my book!!

I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

But in time....

we are going to have to find a way to win games like this in the future. Look around the NFL, some really good teams have really bad days, and some how, some way, they find a way to win them. Making them a playoff caliber team. We aren’t there yet, thats just cold hard truth. But in the future, games like this, we are going to have to squeak it out and notch the “W”. I also don’t consider that first INT as pure lucky. I think Porter hit Shuab sending it off course where Ayodele made a pretty heads up catch. I kind of consider that a takeaway.

4th and 10...52 seconds remaining

our best man in the secondary all day lost on an insane 23 yrd completion by a plenty good receiver. Tough loss…because it was so win-able.

Everyone needs to chill out

Did this loss suck? yes. We played against an 0-4 team that had a very hard schedule up to this point. Everyone here knew this was going to be a hard fought close game because we all knew they were alot better than their record showed. They were playing at home and were desperate for the win (kinda like us against SD last week).

Did we play ourselves out of a win? Yes. We didnt execute at the end of the game and they did. Does that make us a .500 team this year? No. We are experiencing some growing pains thats all. Does everyone forget that 1/2 of our team is new and and still meshing.

Will BP and Co get this crap straightened out quick? Hell Yeah! We are gonna come out next week and kick Baltimores asses. This was just a small pot hole on the road to greatness. We’re already starting to see great things start to happen with this team dont let one loss drag you guys down we got to look at the big picture.

Maybe

If the damn NFL wuld let us do the cupid shuffle in the end zone then we would be more tempted to get in there.
