FINS GET SPARANO
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Miami Dolphins have hired Cowboys offensive line coach Tony Sparano to be the team's next head coach.
Dolphins officials, per Glazer, called the other "candidates" on Wednesday morning and informed them that the job was going to Sparano.
As if they didn't already know.
There were reports more than a week ago that Sparano had been offered the job, which if true is a violation of league rules since Sparano already had a job and his work for that team was not finished. Also, the offer reportedly was made before a minority candidate was interviewed for the position, which would seem to be a violation of the Rooney Rule.
So in roughly two days after Sparano became available to be hired, the offer was made, it was accepted, and a contract was worked out.
Meanwhile, we're hearing that Jaguars assistant head coach Mike Tice was indeed slated to interview on Monday, but the session was canceled after the Cowboys lost. If that's true, it only confirms that the post-Sparano interviews were shams.

Nice
Today Sparano and Ireland arrived at the team facility around 8 a.m. Parcells was already at work. Huizenga arrived at 8:45 -- he's allowed to show up whenever he freakin' wants cause he owns the joint.
One of the items on the agenda today is Sparano meeting with Ireland and Parcells about the formation of a coaching staff. Dallas assistants Paul Pasqualoni (linebackers), Todd Bowles (secondary and possibly a defensive coordinator candidate for Miami) and Kacy Rodgers (defensive line) are no longer under contract to the Cowboys. So Sparano must share his feelings about working with those guys and others.
Sparano also has to get caught up on Miami's current sad talent state and give his take on the subject -- based presumably on his study of the Dolphins from afar. At some point either Parcells or Ireland will also give club president Bryan Wiedmeier the sign to begin contract negotiations to sign Sparano.
As I reported yesterday, agent Jimmy Sexton, who represents Parcells as well as Sparano, has been doing his homework. He has gotten a feel for the contracts signed last year by first-time NFL coach Lane Kiffin, Mike Tomlin and even Cam Cameron and will negotiate based on those deals for his client who is also a first time NFL head coach.
Sparano will likely sign a four-year deal based on the fact that is a typical length in the NFL these days and it parallels the four-year deal Parcells signed. Sparano will, in likelihood, get a deal worth between $2-2.7 million per season.

Now
Then, it's time for a roster purge, and finally....the draft. Is it April yet?

Roster Purge
Offense - Beck, Brown, Ricky, L. Booker, Ginn, Hagan, Carey, Hadnot, Satele, Alabi, Toledo, Mormino, & Reed.
Defense - Taylor, Thomas, J. Allen, W. Allen, Bell, R.Wright, Roth, Solai, Porter, Crowder, A. Wright & R. Hill.
I'd like to keep Hill due to injuries and I think he can play nickel corner for us as well.

Just to add on...
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Miami Dolphins have hired Cowboys assistant Tony Sparano to be their new head coach. He succeeds Cam Cameron as coach of the Dolphins.

-Breaking News-
"Interview process?" one former assistant said. "Bill's just going to call you up and ask you if you are coming."
