Jason Taylor going to Hawaii!!

The Pro-Bowl rosters have been announced and you can view them right here.  The only Dolphin to make the squad this year?  It's none other than our all-time great defensive end, Jason Taylor!!  Taylor is 5th in the AFC with 10 sacks.  He also has 4 forced fumbles, 4 passes defended, a blocked field goal, and an interception returned for a touchdown.  He will be the reserve defensive end, as Jared Allen and Kyle Vanden Bosch will be the starters.  That's despite the fact that Taylor has 1 more sack, 1 more forced fumble, and 1 more pass defensed than Vanden Bosch.  Vanden Bosch is also without an interception or a touchdown, but does have 1 more tackle than JT.  Taylor should be starting on this team, but oh well.

Also, from the "feel-good" file, safety Sean Taylor was voted onto the NFC Pro-Bowl squad as the team's starting free safety.  That's great and is well-deserved, as he was having a great season until tragedy struck.

Thoughts on the pro-bowl rosters below...

Some definite snubs this year....
first though, i'm glad JT got in. Possibly by reputation, but he's still putting up solid numbers on what is otherwise an atrocious defense (team really).

Speaking of DE's, how does Mario Williams get left out? He's second in the NFL and first in the AFC in sacks, with 3 more than JT (MW has 13).

While reggie bush got hyped up by everyone and is now sitting on a career 3.7 ypc avg, mario williams should be a pro bowler.

Somehow KW2 didn't make it either as voters picked tony gonzalez ahead of him. Winslow has great numbers and will be in the playoffs, how do people pick gonzalez, playing on a 4 win team, ahead of him?

Fred Taylor? How does he get left out? He's got more total rushing yards and a full one yard better per carry average than addai. The usual excuse? Popularity of some players.

Which is interesting because in the NFC Urlacher, correctly, was left out as he's had lots of injuries this year. Instead voters picked patrick willis who has been excellent. Maybe the NFC voters have a little more knowledge than the AFC voters (when thinking of willis getting over urlacher vs. addai & gonzalez ahead of taylor & winslow.

I forgot to add...
joe thomas to the list of snubs. How does he not get in? He's played as well as any tackle and is a big part of why the Browns have kept Derek Anderson upright, putting up big numbers and with a playoff trip in hand.

Part of Winslow's problem...
may have been simple unpopularity, too.  The guy wore out his welcome pretty fast with a lot of people in those first couple of years when he was so arrogant off the field (even for an NFL player -- heck, even for an NFL receiver) while doing flat nothing on it.

and there you have it
He is unpopular and whats what the probowl is now a popularity contest.
Take the fan vote out and you dont have this problem.

By and Large Yes...
just a simple popularity contest.

Not just with winslow, but with Joe Thomas also.

Ogden, much like Zach THomas, is/was a great player on the latter half of his career who has been out quite a bit this year with injuries.

Yet somehow he gets in over Thomas who has been super in Cleveland.

Popularity!

Devil's advocate
Just to play devil's advocate, here's what I'll say:

Mario Williams - He had only 9.5 sacks until last Thursday's game.  But fan voting ended two days before that game in which he got 3.5 sacks.  So that's probably why he isn't on it.

Kellen Winslow - I was a bit surprised by this one, too, until I saw Gonzalez and Winslow have exactly the same yardage and TD totals.  Gonzalez, though, has more receptions and fewer fumbles.  Also, Winslow plays on a team with more options while Gonzalez is like the only weapon in KC.

Fred Taylor - Sure, he's had a great year.  But Addai has 221 more yards from scrimmage than Taylor and has 14 total TDs compared to Taylor's 4.
